Out of this fertile music scene comes a vocalist who is reminding people what pop and soul music is all about. 25-year old Alison Scott has a one in a million voice and remarkable songwriting skills, and is making believers out of everyone who hears her. She has packed rooms all over the region, and Scott has packed the Dakota Jazz Club before with the release of her new album, “Hiding Under the Covers.” Her live DVD, “Live at the Dakota,” was recorded here in May 2009 and released in September.

Her debut album, released in 2006, featured pianist/vocalist Scott on original songs that revealed her penchant for 70’s pop, and showed a maturity in her songwriting that belied her age. The album closed with a version of Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move” that immediately drew comparisons to the former, and served to foreshadow Scott’s current release. The new project will cover songs by Randy Newman, Stevie Wonder, and Sonny and Cher, with a special tribute to Minnesota musicians Bob Dylan, Prince, and Paul Westerberg. Alison Scott’s live show features the best musicians the Minneapolis scene has to offer, with Kevin Bowe (Paul Westerberg) on guitar, Tommy Barbarella on organ, Steve Price (Rex Daisy) on bass, and Peter Anderson (Golden Smog, Polara) on drums.

“Alison Scott is a cool, oxygen alternative to the stale air coming out of many singer-songwriters today. Her fresh approach to songwriting around a piano will leave you fully satisfied, feeling clear headed and ready for more.” – Craig Grossman (Green Room Booking)
