It’s time for another big event at the future Vieux Carré space in Saint Paul! Sunday, March 15th we’re very honored to be hosting a benefit for our long time partners and friends at KFAI. DJ Larry Englund of Rhythm and Grooves, which airs every Saturday morning on KFAI, has put together a wonderful night with proceeds from the event going to benefit the station. Larry has lined up a stellar line up of some of the Twin Cities jazz community’s finest. The event will be a celebration of the versatility and power of horns-based bands.

Host: Larry Englund, host of KFAI’s “Rhythm & Grooves”
Maurice Jacox is a highly respected and sought after vocalist, known for his work with Willie & The Bees, The Butanes Soul Revue, and the Soul Tight Committee. Lately he has worked with Nachito Herrera and the Cuban National Symphony in Havana. For this date, he will be joined by guitarist Bobby E. and tuba player Tom Wells of Dick & Jane’s Brass Band.
Trumpeter Zack Lozier came to prominence in the Twin Cities playing with Davina & The Vagabonds and the Jack Brass Band. He is a first call player who has been a featured soloist with Doc Severenson’s mid-nation tours. Lozier is a member of the Southside Aces, Big Blue Station Wagon, and the Zack Lozier Trio.
New Sound Underground is a seven-piece band whose high energy, passionate performances have electrified audiences at First Avenue, Paisley Park, and the Telluride Jazz Festival. They’ve shared the stage with folks like John Scofield, the Dirty Dozen, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, playing a blend of jazz, funk, hip-hop, soul, and R&B, with some world rhythms thrown in for good measure. With a versatile, three horn frontline, electric keyboards, and in-the-pocket rhythm sections, NSU provides a groovilicious soundscape for dancers and listeners alike.
