BebelBebel Gilberto
June 17 at 7pm

“Atmosphere is everything to this music, and it’s an atmosphere that creates a cozy realm between the retro and the fashionable, and between Brazil and international clubland.”
New York Times

With ethereal vocals and wistful, dreamy song writing, Bebel Gilberto is one of Brazil’s most popular artists. Bebel splits her time between Rio de Janeiro and New York City; she’s exquisitely synthesized musical influences from both cities in every track. Bebel’s sultry tonality is informed by the warm and playful Brazilian rhythms that include the berimbau, wood bongos and shakers. The gorgeous melodies are shaped by touches of electronica, and Bebel’s intimate vocals hint at a fantastical Rio de Janeiro.

“These guys are a street party celebrating New Orleans waiting to happen in every song.” – Seattle PI

The Rebirth Brass Band have been at the forefront of the brass band revival that they helped kick off almost 30 years ago. Formed by the Frazier brothers, Phil and Keith, along with Kermit Ruffins in 1983, The Rebirth Brass band has gone from playing on corners in the French Quarter to selling out concert halls across the world and appearing in David Simon’s HBO hit “Tremé.

“Cha Wa” is a slang phrase used by every Mardi Gras indian tribe, meaning “We’re comin’ for ya” – and this band is definitely comin’ for ya!” – Broadway WorldAfter honing their explosive sound in clubs and festivals around the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indian funk band Cha Wa is back on tour.  Their red-hot combination of two of New Orleans’ best traditions, Mardi Gras Indians and street level funk music.  Cha Wa combines deep funk, percussive polyrhythms, and a mix of singing and Mardi Gras Indian chanting.  All of these elements fuse into an intoxicating, hypnotic blend of culture that could only come out of the Crescent City.

NRBQ vs Los Straitjackets
September 11 at 7pm

“Often called “the world’s greatest bar band,” NRBQ are that rare group that’s eclectic, stylistically innovative, and creatively ambitious while also sounding thoroughly unpretentious and accessible. At its best, NRBQ’s music casually mixes up barrelhouse R&B, British Invasion pop, fourth-gear rockabilly, exploratory free jazz, and dozens of other flavors while giving it all a stomp-down rhythm that makes fans want to dance and expressing a sense of joy and easy good humor that comes straight from the heart.”
– All Music

No one equals the finesse and power of Los Straitjackets when it comes to delivering high-energy rock and roll instrumental music. Since first donning their trademark Lucha Libre masks before a record store appearance in 1994, the band has recorded 11 albums, played around the world, and never failed to inspire an audience to smile while rocking out.
