Luckily, we are occasionally graced by a talent so fresh, that it defies categorization and takes you to places you’ve never been. Gaby Moreno is such a talent, and the pleasure is ours to enter into her musical world.
The Guatemalan born singer, songwriter and guitarist, has been nominated for this year’s Grammy Award in the Best Latin Pop Album category for her latest released album Ilusión, which dropped in September of last year.
A joy to experience, Ilusión unveils a versatility of voice and spirit that is extraordinary. Weaving between genres with each song, Moreno is equally comfortable as a Latin folk singer, as she is showing off her R & B chops.
A lover of blues, soul, and jazz since childhood, Moreno’s unique ability to create this variety in concert is irresistible. She sings both English and Spanish lyrics, in crisp, intense vocalization. This, coupled with her perfect guitar accompaniment (take a listen to 2012’s Blues del Mar) is one of the reasons the anticipation is high for an intimate evening that will be an impassioned musical experience at the Dakota.
