ELYJOE ELY

Joe Ely was born between Route 66 and the Rock Island Line in Amarillo, Texas, and he saw Jerry Lee Lewis playing on a flatbed trailer in an Amarillo dust storm when he was six years old. Since then he’s had a career than can fairly be called mythic. His songs about the geographic and romantic landscapes of the Lone Star State are pure poetry, but there’s no other Texas songwriter on whom rock has left a stronger mark. Joe was a member of the original Flatlanders, a backup vocalist with the Clash, and a member of Los Super Seven. Joe has also shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, the Clancy Brothers, and Uncle Tupelo. He is a true pioneer of “outlaw country,” Americana, and Texas music.

Since exploding onto the scene in 2005, Davina and the Vagabonds have grown from a down-and-dirty blues band into one of the most exciting acoustic ensembles on the international stage. This high-energy quintet has established itself with a stellar live show, a professional look, and good old-fashioned hard work. They used to average over 300 shows a year in the Mpls/St. Paul area, and now have an ambitious full-time U.S. and international schedule. In recent years they have performed in 41 states, 2 Canadian provinces and 10 European countries.

Ever since his early days as front man for the Lost Planet Airmen, Commander Cody has been a truly unique and iconoclastic figure. His special blend of old-time rock ‘n’ roll, country, boogie-woogie, R&B and Western swing have virtually defined American roots music. The band’s straightforward energy was evident on their debut single, 1968’s “Hot Rod Lincoln,” and is still on display at their blistering live shows. After 23 years away from the studio, Cody returned in 2009 with Dopers, Drunks, and Everyday Losers, a collection of new songs and CC classics.

Trace Bundy must be seen, not just heard. His music is poetry in motion, using harmonics, looping, multiple capos, and his unique banter and stage presence to deliver an unforgettable live concert experience. Listening to his intricate arrangements is one thing, but seeing the fan-dubbed “Acoustic Ninja” play live confounds even the most accomplished music lovers as to how one person can do all that with just two hands and ten fingers.
