All-Star Jazz Quintet
30th Anniversary Reunion Tour
One of the great bands of the ‘90’s, Horizon is reunited and is on tour with renewed energy. This band of all star musicians always sparkles; always soars. Since Horizon’s Blue Note & Columbia heyday, Horizon’s members have all become respected leaders. Internationally acclaimed drummer and composer Victor Lewis has recorded and toured with artists ranging from Woody Shaw and Stan Getz, to Earl Klugh and David Sanborn. Trumpet player Terell Stafford, head of Jazz Studies at Temple University, has been on over 90 records and has been heralded as “one of the great players of our time” by no less than jazz legend McCoy Tyner. Bassist Essiet Essiet’s playing is fluid and muscular. Pianist Edward Simon, originally from Venezuela is a Guggenheim Fellow and member of the SF Jazz Collective. Two of his own albums have been among the New York Times list of the 10 best jazz recordings of the year.
Celebrating their 30th Anniversary, hard bop masters Watson and Lewis and Horizon have reunited. Watson, a Kansas City native and current professor at KU galvanized last year’s festival in Kansas City with his appearance as part of the Art Blakey Legacy Band.
