Over a 30-plus year career, Lynch has become one of the greatest vocalists in modern bluegrass, and one of the best songwriters as well. Her voice and songs can be found on records by Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, and many more. Her own projects have received numerous awards and Grammy nominations, and her live shows convey an energy few can match.
Lynch was considered a pioneer in the 1970s when she became one of the first women to front a bluegrass band, the Front Porch String Band. After the band broke up in 1981, she pursued a solo career. A re-released Front Porch recording came out in 1991, and helped bolster Lynch’s solo career with critical acclaim: Grammy nominations in 1995 and 1997, and a number of International Bluegrass Music Association awards. Lynch formed her current band in 2005, and continues to record and tour constantly. In 2007 she was inducted into the Alabama Bluegrass Hall of Fame.
The current Claire Lynch Band has Claire animated and energized. Her career has come full circle: once again, she’s a creative powerhouse at the top of her game, performing with one of the sharpest and most exciting post-modern bluegrass bands of the current decade.
