Blistering Saxophonist meets Smoldering Soul Diva!
David Murray, one of the giants of modern jazz, teams up with Macy Gray, one of the most unique voices of her generation, for a special new project. Murray has rearranged his original music and some of the covers Gray did on her last record, with predictably stunning results.
Few musicians in jazz history have proven more vigorously productive and resourceful than David Murray. From the moment he first visited New York as a 20 year old student in 1975, David has careened forward in a cool, collected, rocket fueled streak. Over the past 35 years, he has released over 150 albums under his own name.
A gifted songwriter, dazzlingly singer and mother of three teenagers, Macy Gray has been overturning fan expectation and industry formula since releasing her debut album, On How Life Is. That musical calling card spawned the classic single “I Try,” and both the CD and single were massive global hits. To date, Macy’s career has produced two Grammys, two MTV awards, over 15 million units sold, and a thriving acting career.
After working together on Questlove’s Afro Picks project Macy asked David to arrange Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” for her latest CD “Covered”. The concept of this show was born from their collaboration and features arrangements from “Covered” and newly penned compositions by Murray.
