You may not know the name DePedro, but you don’t have to know it to like it, it’s accessible music no matter the genre or name. There is something familiar, yet decidedly new about what is going on here. Sure there is something tex-mex about it, but it goes much further than that, there’s a classical edge along with a good sense of songcraft to it, unexpected arrangements and underspoken breakdowns build up to great hooks and melodies. Here is a songwriter who not only has experience, but has his ears open to what is going on around him… culturally and literally.
Jairo Zavala is the man behind DePedro, and he’s spent most of the last two decades writing and playing guitar with other bands, all the while cultivating his sound and style… and a bunch of songs. Recorded mostly in Tucson at Calexico’s studio, Zavala aims to show everyone that music has no borders… a good song is a good song. Though he was born and raised in Madrid, his music has plenty of Americana in it along with a healthy dose of the romantic, so come down and be prepared to be mesmerized by the sultry, dusty, and down right beautiful songs even if you don’t understand the lyrics.
