BEN WATT (everything but the girl) & ALAN SPARHAWK (low)

Pitchfork calls Ben Watt’s new CD “an absolute Triumph,” adding that it blends “the fineness of Pentangle to the fury of Crazy Horse.” Rolling Stone says that Watt “throws crocuses at David Bowie… rekindles Morrissey’s fire.”

Watt is a British singer, musician, producer, record exec, and composer who’s US fame came through Everything But The Girl. His new album has received rave reviews, and he’s currently touring the US with a crack band featuring guitarist Bernard Butler of Suede. Thursday night’s Dakota show will have a special treat – a rare solo set by Duluth based Alan Sparhawk, whose group Low is “One of Minnesota’s most internationally renowned rock bands”(Tim Riemenschneider, Star Tribune)

For over two decades, Alan Sparhawk has co-led rock trio Low through a string of acclaimed albums and world touring, and are considered by City Pages to have “firmly established themselves as innovators and iconoclasts within American independent music.” Through constant touring, they have found themselves in the company of acts such as the Dirty Three, Radiohead and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.  Check it out:
