At the start of 2008, Sharon Little was working as a waitress. Less than five months later, she was appearing in concert halls throughout the country as the opening act on the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss and T Bone Burnett “Raising Sand” tour.
The release of Paper Doll, Little’s second record, succeeds Little’s triumphant Raising Sand concert tour. She was selected from dozens of acts clamoring for the slot, and Sharon received standing ovations in front of sold-out houses in arenas and amphitheaters across the country. Little’s music delivers a powerful message through songs that effortlessly fuse pop, rock, R&B, and even a taste of electronic music in a direct, emotionally potent style.
Her music has been ubiquitous on television: the opening track from Perfect Time…, “Follow That Sound,” became the theme for The Cleaner on A&E, and she sang that song on-camera in one memorable episode. She performed another track from that album, “Spaceship,” in a sequence shot in New York’s 34th Street subway station for an episode of CSI: NY, and her songs have also been featured on NCIS, The Good Wife, Ghost Whisperer, and NUMB3RS.
Julian Velard is a thoroughly charming singer songwriter, and his blog clearly reflects the charm of his self-awareness. He grew up and went to school in the US (where, among other things, he studied under Yusef Lateef). He has lived in London since 2007, and his renown is clearly larger on that side of the Atlantic.
