Grammy Award nominee Ted Nash (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis) and noted New York-based pianist David Berkman will headline an evening of top shelf entertainment at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant to benefit his longtime friend, Jeremy “Boot” Walker, a composer, musician, blogger, and noted presenter recently diagnosed with late stages Lyme Disease.
Nash will perform with Walker’s band Boot Camp: Brandon Wozniak (saxophone), Chris Bates (bass), Miguel Hurtado (drums) withBryan Nichols covering piano for Walker. Bass great Anthony Cox (Joe Lovano, Sam Rivers) will lead his band, Happy Spirits, including Solomon Parham on trumpet, Peter Schimke on piano and Kevin Washington on drums. The evening will include a few surprises by singers from Minnesota Opera including Angela and Seth Keeton, Brad Benoit, Rodolfo Nieto, and Bergen Baker, with the musical sets being kicked off by City Pages “Artist of the Year,” writer and comedian, Joseph Scrimshaw.
