Searing Dynamic Violin Star
American Rock & Roll
Kevin Bowe Opening! Scarlet's show was featured in this week's Star Tribune "Big Gigs" As she has proven on recent trips to Minnesota, Scarlet Rivera is more than the mysterious violinist who punctuated “Hurricane,” one of Bob Dylan’s most compelling story songs. Not only did she play on Dylan’s “Desire” and “Hard Rain” albums, she has been a key practitioner of the violin in rock, heard on records by Tracy Chapman, David Johansen, Keb Mo and many others. She’ll be backed by an all-star Twin Cities band featuring guitarists Lonnie Knight and Gene Lafond, keyboardist Matt Fink and drummer Stan Kipper. (7 p.m. Sun., Dakota Jazz Club, $15.) Bream In the Star Tribune, Jon Bream wrote about "Scarlet’s legendary meeting with Bob Dylan on a Greenwich Village street corner. She had massive hair and a fiddle case in her hand. He rolled down the car window and asked if she could play the violin, invited her for a ride and an audition at his loft." Scarlet played a prominent role on both Bob Dylan's Desire album and his Rolling Thunder Revue tour. In this interview she discusses being discovered by Dylan, working with his co-writer at the time, Jacques Levy, recording Desire and her experiences on the road with the Rolling Thunder band. Appearing with Scarlet are: Gary Lopac: Bass Matt Fink: Keyboards Lonnie Knight: Guitar Stan Kipper: Drums Gene Lafond: Guitar Billy Hallquist: Guitar
