Cassandra Wilson

Cassandra Wilson

Incomparable Jazz Vocals

Making a triumphant return to the Dakota, the unparalleled jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson has outdone herself once again. Bringing to life the music and life of Billie Holiday she will be sampling some of the new tracks from her latest. On March 10th and 11th, Cassandra Wilson brings to the Dakota her otherworldly homage to Billie Holiday 'Coming Forth By Day' coming out the exact day of Billie’s 100th birthday - April 7. This album is a continuation of Cassandra's fresh, wholly original approach to jazz music, and in this case one of her idols. Cassandra made the album with an unlikely cast of characters that includes the drummer and bass player in The Bad Seeds, string arrangements by Van Dyke Parks, and producer Nick Launay who’s helmed the boards for Nick Cave in addition to Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “‘Coming Forth by Day’ is an homage dedicated to the beauty, power, and genius of Billie Holiday. A collection of musical spells, prescriptions for navigating the dubious myths surrounding her life and times, this record is a vehicle for the re-emergence of Billie’s songbook in the 21st century,” says Wilson.

Cassandra Wilson is an American jazz musician, vocalist, songwriter, and producer from Jackson, Mississippi. Described by...
