American Roots Revue with Larry Long, Robert Robinson, Tonia Hughes, JD Steele, Adam Levy

American Roots Revue wins a Legacy Grant!   The group will perform in five out state Minnesota communities in partnership with homeless shelters, veteran, and community organizations.

Back by popular demand after two sold-out shows at the Dakota in November, gospel great Robert Robinson; the unstoppably creative dynamo J.D. Steele; R&B powerhouse Tonia Hughes and gifted songwriter Larry Long will return with a band of musicians second to none on Saturday, January 18th.  Their collective performances have circled the globe from Madison Square Garden to the Hollywood Bowl; South Africa, Scotland, Brazil, Russia, Kenya, Italy and France.  You may also recognize each from shows with everyone from Prince to Pete Seeger, Mavis Staples to Bruce Springsteen. Together for an explosive new show at the Dakota, they will warm up your January with their powerful and heart-warming performances from the vibrant traditions of gospel, jazz, rhythm & blues, folk and rock.   For this Martin Luther King weekend, they will be celebrating with you the ties that bind us together through our shared love of music rooted in the American experience.

About American Roots Revue with Larry Long, Robert Robinson, Tonia Hughes, JD Steele, Adam Levy

American Roots Revue works from the core of America’s richest musical traditions of blues, folk, rock, gospel, First Nation and R&B.  This November the revue returns to its roots with powerhouse vocalist and 2017-2018 McKnight Artist Fellow Tonia Hughes; J.D. Steele (eldest renowned sibling of ‘The Steeles’), the “Pavarotti of Gospel” Robert Robinson, and international troubadour and community building Larry Long with special guest Adam Levy.

Besides offering up his own songs, acclaimed songwriter and front man for the Honeydogs Levy will play guitar with the Revue’s  incendiary all-star band which includes Billy Steele (keyboards), Joe Savage (pedal steel), Yonathan Bekure (bass) and Kenyari Jackson (drums).

Larry Long’s American Roots Revue boasts the artistic range to salute iconic America music heroes like Pete Seeger, Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Mavis Staples and George Benson. And the poetic license to present artists in unique combinations with each other, like this must-see bill. All backed by a superlative band and vocalists who will make you feel like you’re going to a revival inside the intimate nightclub that is the Dakota.
