About Bernie King & the Guilty Pleasures
Bernie King and the Guilty Pleasures represent an original, swinging take on roots-based Americana music. Live or on their self-titled album, the band’s brand of blues, bluegrass, and acoustic rockers showcase an impressive mix of Bernie King-penned originals and diverse covers by Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, and Chubby Checker.
The lineup features Bernie King on vocals and rhythm guitar, John Kurtis on lead guitar, mandolin and banjo, Matt Smith on upright bass, and Julie King on washboard and snare drum.
As they have been performing on the same stages with other roots stalwarts such as Eilen Jewell, Charlie Parr, Dan Hicks, The .357 String Band, Tom Vandenavond and The Brass Kings, word of the band’s house-rockin’ appeal and fan base continues to grow. Additionally, a Bernie King original– “Unafraid”– was recently included in the John Waters-narrated documentary “Of Dolls and Murder”.

“Certainly a name that we should keep an eye on, Bernie King makes this “King” for his own royal entrance as a singer songwriter.” -Freddy Celis, Rootstime
