About Carolyn Wonderland
A remarkably talented triple threat with her diverse songwriting, soulful vocals, and guitar goddess status, Carolyn Wonderland has a pedigree in the music industry that’s hard to match. Since dropping out of her Texan high school, Wonderland has dedicated her life to music and become one of the most respected blues artists on the scene.
While she has earned most of her critical acclaim as a well-versed blues singer and guitarist, Wonderland is a skilled multi-instrumentalist, equally proficient on the trumpet, mandolin, accordion, and piano. Never one to accept limitations, Wonderland has earned a label as a kind of renegade, incorporating elements of country, swing, zydeco, surf, gospel, soul, and cumbia music into her own soulful sound.
Since beginning her career as a teenager, Wonderland has won an array of awards including 2009 and 2012’s Best Female Vocalist at the large-scale concert festival Austin City Limits. Wonderland has also won numerous Houston Press Music Award’s, including Best Guitarist, Musician of the Year, and Best Blues Songwriter of the Year. Since 1993, she has released nine albums, had her music featured on national television shows, and performed alongside the likes of Buddy Guy, Bob Dylan, The String Cheese Incident, Ray Benson, and Los Lobos. Her most recent album, Peace Metal, was released in September 2011 and has been called “…gritty, beautiful, smart, and seriously cool” by Premier Guitar Magazine. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Wonderland’s one-of-kind soulful style as she stops by The Dakota on her current North American tour!
