About Emma Rena
Emma Rena was born on August 29 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Russian-Jewish parents Kristi Bloom, an English teacher and Mark Weisberg, a clinical health psychologist and jazz musician. Her grandmother, Lois Weisberg was an acclaimed concert pianist, and played with orchestras all over the country.
Raised in a musically gifted family, it is no wonder that Emma Rena was destined to become a musician. She spent her childhood mesmerized by her grandmother playing the piano, attending her father’s gigs, and singing along to the tunes that filled her household daily. Though she has always been a natural performer, Emma honed her skills by taking dance lessons at age 4, classical piano training by age 5, and viola when she was 10. At 13 years old, she performed for the first time on stage at the Dakota Jazz club in Minneapolis.
In high school, she actively participated in choir, orchestra, band, and musical theatre. Being so involved left little time for socializing and she was often bullied because of it. Therefore, she embarked on her collegiate journey and left music behind with hopes of being a regular teenager.
Emma Rena attended Loyola University Chicago where she majored in sociology and race relations. However, she soon found that her passion for music was not something she could repress. She would often find herself in the music building singing for hours, or offering to perform at school events, including singing the national anthem at basketball games. Her talent was soon recognized and she was invited to sing the National Anthem at the famous Boston TD Garden before the Boston Celtics v. Indiana Pacers game, launching Emma Rena as a voice to be reckoned with.
In 2013, she was given a life-changing opportunity to go to Los Angeles and learn from amazing producers Red One and Press Play. After a few cross-country trips, she decided to take a leap of faith and move to L.A. to pursue a career in music and chase her passion. Ever since, she has been working relentlessly to refine her identity, image, and sound as an artist. After one year of exploration, Emma Rena is ready to reveal herself in her first project release ever.
