fDeluxe’s Minneapolis Sound After Party with DJ Lenka Paris
To coincide with their return to The Dakota on January 31, fDeluxe (aka The Family), will be hosting a Minneapolis Sound After Party featuring the talents of DJ Lenka Paris.
Lenka, who first worked with the band at their reunion show at the now defunct Loring Theater way back in September 2011, is well known around the Twin Cities after hosting residencies at First Avenue, W Minneapolis and Jetset amongst other and will thrill the crowd with a mind blowing mix of Minneapolis Funk, R&B, Soul and more.
With members of the band mingling and getting down to Lenka’s funky sounds The Dakota will be THE place to be from 11am til late.
DJ Lenka Paris is a dj known for her flawless mixing of house, funk, soul, hip hop, disco and pop combined with fun fashion style. She was born in Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia). First touched a record player at age 5 and was fascinated. At 17 she learned how to dj and it became a profession after graduating high school. She became a resident dj in a nightclub which soon after won Best Nightclub in Czech Republic award. She was also working with a hip hop group which released a couple of albums on Euro Universal Records. After relocating to America it wasn’t long before Lenka was back in the game. A start at Fujiya in Minneapolis quickly led to Friday and Saturday night residency at First Avenue Main Room. She since made people dance in roughly 25 Minneapolis venues, NYC, Chicago, Las Vegas, D.C., Detroit, Prague. Clients include Prince, Paisley Park Studios 2000 – present, Princess – Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Liebrum, The Revolution, fDeluxe, Puma, MAC Cosmetics, Sisley, MOA, Target, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, D’Amico, Snap Fitness, Yogafit, MN Twins, Starwood Hotels, First Avenue, The Current.
Lenka holds a 2 nights per week residency at W Minneapolis The Foshay where she has been setting the vibe since 2010, weekly residency at Jetset, and residency at Paisley Park Studios. She was also among others featured on CBS, FOX, Kare 11, Star Tribune, City PagesPages, KDWB, IHeart Radio.

Minneapolis funk outfit, fDeluxe (aka The Family), will return to the stage with two shows at The Dakota on January 31, 2018.
Formed in the wake of success of Prince’s smash hit film “Purple Rain” The Family featured three former members of his Royal Badness’ nemesis The Time (Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton and “St Paul” Peterson) along with sax player Eric Leeds and Susannah Melvoin, twin sister of Revolution guitarist Wendy. Their debut, self-titled set (released on Prince’s Paisley Park label) is possibly one of the greatest funk albums of the 80s, and remains to this day an often-overlooked treasure. Described as the “missing link between the psychedelic sounds of “Around The World In A Day’ and the horn-infused funk of “Parade”, The Family has been cited as an all-time favorite by artists such as Dam-Funk, Questlove, Chris Rock, Erykah Badu and D’Angelo to name but a few.
In 2010 the band reunited (minus Benton) as fDeluxe and have released the critically acclaimed studio albums “Gaslight” and “AM Static”, along with a blistering concert set “Live & Tight As A Funk Fiend’s Fix”. They have performed sold out shows in Australia, Japan, England, Paris, Brussels and Holland as well as in their native USA. Their performance at an All-Star tribute to Prince (D’Angelo, Chris Rock, Elvis Costello and more) at Carnegie Hall in 2013 saw Billboard proclaim, “the show reached its funkiest echelon when fDeluxe came out to perform with the Roots,” while the Village Voice described it as “a dominant appearance by fDeluxe whose high energy funk set was otherwise a master class in bass-driven grooves.”
Since the release of their moving tribute to Prince (a remake of their 1985 cut “Nothing Compares 2 U” – watch here. The band has taken a break while various members have pursued other interests – Leeds/Peterson have been working on their debut, jazz fusion album as a duo; Johnson has been touring with The Time (including performances with Bruno Mars and Rihanna) and Melvoin working on a children’s storybook based on her song ‘Starfish & Coffee’.
With the Super Bowl and football fans from around the world descending on the Twin Cities, the band is excited to once again showcase their unique sound at one of the city’s most beloved venues.
