About Grace Askew
“BADASS” (ROLLING STONE)
Yahoo! Music called her “smoldering and searing,” continuing, “Grace Askew was the fabulous ‘bluntry’ (blues + country) singer from ‘The Voice’ Season 4, the girl with the badass beehive, boots made for walkin’, and velvet ‘n’ sandpaper vocals who would’ve been right at home on Jack White’s Third Man Records roster.”
Daytrotter raved about “her extraordinary voice,” saying, “Mark our words, Memphis’ Grace Askew will be the best thing to ever come out of ‘The Voice…’ Askew has officially taped one of the finest Daytrotter sessions of all-time. Just listen. She makes us believe in the beauty of hurt and the elixir of booze.”
Askew released the ‘Empty Rooms’ EP May 31. Her performances of “These Boots Were Made For Walking” and “Me and Bobby McGee” from the Voice are available via the iTunes Store. Here is her stark music video for the song “Empty Room”:www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3y6Bw0rMKw
A sixth-generation Memphian, Grace Askew has called the Delta her home her entire life, drawing much of her inspiration from the muddy, rural roots of her hometown. Starting guitar at age 13, Grace’s passion for writing quickly melded with the instrument, and ever since, she has been writing her own material and performing in venues across the country. Over the past 4 years the road has been a mainstay for Askew as she continuously pushes herself to travel, sharing her music with all walks of life via self-booked and self-promoted tours. The people, places, and experiences have thus shaped her songwriting to the stories of what she has seen and simply to what she knows. So far, her talents have afforded her the opportunity to open and tour with some of her musical heroes such as Marty Stuarty, Hayes Carll, T-Model Ford, Ray Wylie Hubbard, James McMurtry, Band of Heathens, and Jesse Winchester. Most recently, Grace was on team Blake Shelton of NBC’s The Voice (season 4) which took her all the way to the final 32 and was later deemed a top 3 favorite contestant by Yahoo Music and RollingStone.com.
What Other People Have Been Saying...
“a charming, southern belle with a very distinctive vocal and musical style” -Huffington Post
“Mark our words, Memphis’ Grace Askew will be the best thing to ever come out of, “The Voice.” She made it a few rounds deep this season and yet, she wasn’t meant for a competition like that – putting her extraordinary voice against all of those networking squirrels with aspirations and fancy wardrobes. Askew has officially taped one of the finest Daytrotter sessions of all-time. Just listen. She makes us believe in the beauty of hurt and the elixir of booze.” -Daytrotter
