About Melody and the Dramatics
Melody and The Dramatics is a very fresh and unique funk and groove band. They burst through deep cuts of Motown, Southern soul, New Orleans funk, Stax and current artists in that groovy hip shaking and percussive sound. Melody is a versatile and bluesy cabaret-style songstress. She entertains with the depth of her vocal performance and maintains a great audience connection.
Some notable past performances include a Cabaret debut at Au Lapin Agile in Paris, touring England, competing at the Eisteddfod music festival in Wales, and a tour throughout North America. Melody was honored with a nomination to attend the prestigious Yale Cabaret Conference where she worked with Cabaret legend Julie Wilson and Manhattan Transfer vocal ensemble founder Laurel Masse.
It is impossible to give a simple description of Melody Mendis; her eclectic repertoire combines various songs styles and runs the gamut from jazz and rock to French and Portuguese. Her debut CD, Wanderlust, combines a great blend of old and new. Each track guides you on a lush and emotional journey of the world through Melody’s heart. Melody adds a twist, that extra edge which makes the music a little more than just classic. In case you’re wondering, Melody is not her stage name. It’s real. Some things are just meant to be.
