The Dakota welcomes timeless producer, writer and musician Peter Asher for his famous Memoir Shows where Peter regales the assembled with tales from his storied career in the music business and plays tunes from Peter and Gordon. But this time you’ll be left marveling at all that Peter has in the works right now! He’s been working on a musical with Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, won a Grammy for Love Has Come For You, produced the PBS feature with Edie Brickell and Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers, and produced the Beatles tribute album from Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road with guests Miguel, Hunter Hayes and John Grant. Not only that, at the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame awards, Peter inducted the artist managers Andrew Oldham, Rolling Stones and Brian Epstein, Beatles (and interestingly, also inducted this year was Linda Ronstadt, produced by Peter Asher).
Then the next day after his shows, The Dakota welcomes The Webb Sisters, managed by Peter Asher. The most pertinent question may be what has Peter Asher NOT been doing. The Dakota looks forward to these shows with Peter Asher.
About Peter Asher
“From the Beatles to Courtney Love, singer, producer and manager Peter Asher has had a remarkable career. He’ll share anecdotes in shows this week.” Read Jon Bream’s Star Tribune preview from Peter’s 2012 performance here
Peter Asher has had a long and storied career as a performer, a record executive, Grammy-winning producer, and “man about town.” Peter was a key component of the 1960s rock and roll scene and the British Invasion. As half of Peter and Gordon, Asher scored hits with “World Without Love” and “I Go to Pieces.” Asher has a unique perspective on this and other elements of popular culture. Peter Asher’s “Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond” is a multimedia concert full of insightful anecdotes about this frenzied chapter of Rock & Roll history featuring the music of Peter and Gordon, along with other characters from the time:
Paul McCartney, who dated Asher’s sister
Yoko Ono, whose art was shown at a gallery Peter helped run
Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful, who Asher introduced to each other shortly after Faithful’s wedding
James Taylor, who Asher signed to Apple Records and later produced and managed
and a host of others.
Steve Martin and Edie Brickell’s “Love Has Come For You” — produced by Peter Asher — won the Grammy for “Best American Roots Song” at the 2014 Grammy Awards.
