About The Pines

With a sound that wavers on the edge of traditional acoustic/roots music, but embraces the nuances of today’s indie-rock and blues music, The Pines are creating a niche for themselves in the acoustic music scene. The Pines have taken their music across the country, appearing on stage next to the likes of Bon Iver, The Holmes Brothers, Jolie Holland, The Arcade Fire, and Spider John Koerner.

David Huckfelt and Benson Ramsey, both native Iowans, met in a Mexican barrio in Arizona. They began making music together and relocated to Minneapolis, releasing their first album in 2004. Their next recording, Sparrows in the Bell, was released on world-renowned acoustic music label Red House Records, and immediately put them on the map as an emerging force in roots music. Their haunting blend of indie-rock, folk, and blues with intelligent lyrics is garnering national acclaim, and their constant touring schedule has helped to hone their craft.

Longtime disciple of the rich and strange music that sings behind the American veil, Jeffrey Foucault has spent the last decade mining the darker seams of country and blues, producing a string of spare and elemental albums of rare power while garnering accolades across the United States and overseas for a tersely elegant brand of songwriting set apart by its haunting imagery and weather-beaten cool. He lives in Western Massachusetts.

Foucault’s band, Cold Satellite, recently released their second album, Cavalcade. Cavalcade both refines and concentrates the band’s signature amalgam of rock, blues, and country.

“a dusty and often ghostly take on Americana” -CBS Minnesota

“simply and eloquently stated sonic poetry…the real deal.” -Acoustic Guitar

“quietly gripping” -Rolling Stone
