Free concert performances on designated Saturday or Sunday afternoons combine jazz education with a unique performance experience, while encouraging an understanding, appreciation and enthusiasm for jazz. JAZZ PIANO COMPETITION

The Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education and The Schubert Club have created the
First Annual Jazz Piano Competition.
Open to students from ages 16 to 18, this competition rewards excellence among
students of America's great indigenous art form.

All application materials must be received by noon on Thursday, March 17th.

Finalists will be notified by April 1st.

On Sunday April 24th 2005, three finalists will compete in front of a panel of judges and a live audience at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant. At stake will be three scholarships totaling $1,500, including the David Paulus and the Marie Froelich Memorial Scholarships. A selected finalist will also perform at the Dakota Jazz Club and at a Schubert Club Courtroom Concert later in the year.

Competitors are asked to submit an audio tape or CD containing three jazz tunes of their choosing. For complete application information please see The Schubert Club web site: http://www.schubert.org.

Jazz Dialogues are informal gatherings that bring professional musicians (from young emerging artists to "living legends") together with students. They take place at the Dakota, at area schools and Homewood Studios, a communkity resource in north Minneapolis.

Sponsored by The Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education with funding from COMPAS:Community Programs in the Arts through a grant from the McKnight Foundation,The McNeeley Foundation,The LBV Fund,and Burger King.
