Wanda Jackson

Wanda Jackson

Unfinished Business, the new album from legendary singer and “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” inductee Wanda Jackson, is out now on Sugar Hill Records. This is Jackson’s 31st studio album and marks the producing debut of fellow renowned musician and songwriter Justin Townes Earle. Of the release, The Wall Street Journal asserts, “Her twangy cap-gun voice and feisty confidence haven’t dimmed much…,” while Relix magazine heralds, “Jackson teases, taunts…

One of the most popular funk groups of the ’70s, WAR were also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole. Although WAR’s lyrics were sometimes political in nature (in keeping with their racially integrated lineup), their music almost always had a sunny, laid-back vibe emblematic of their Southern California roots. WAR kept the groove loose, and they…

Willie Murphy & the Angel-Headed Hipsters

Willie Murphy & the Angel-Headed Hipsters

Willie Murphy is not just a bluesman. He is a soul, R&B, blues and rock legend who is a charter member of the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame along with Bob Dylan and Prince. Influenced by the piano playing of Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis, Murphy created a style of his own in the early 1970s. With John Koerner and later with Willie and the Bs, Murphy would fuse…

Willie Nile

The New York Times called Willie Nile “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years.” His album Streets Of New York was hailed as “a platter for the ages” by UNCUT magazine. He has been called everything from “a one-man Clash” (UNCUT) to “the next Bob Dylan” and his critically acclaimed solo albums have gotten rave reviews around the world. Bono, Lou Reed, Lucinda…

Willie Walker

One of the great soul and blues singers in the Twin Cities, Willie Walker has lent his sweet tenor voice to a number of high-profile projects, yet still remains one of the region’s best kept secrets. His new quintet will feature all of the soul classics you know and love, done in Walker’s own inimitable style.

Paul Metsa is a 30 year veteran of the MN music scene. He has won 7 MN Music Awards, including 2005 Americana Artist of the year. He has performed over 5,000 professional gigs in the Twin Cities, and has released 11 original recording projects on his label (formerly Raven Records.) One of the great soul and blues singers in the Twin Cities, Willie Walker has lent his sweet tenor…

Willie Watson

In the exploding world of acoustic music, Willie Watson needs no introduction. During his decade plus tenure with Old Crow Medicine Show, Willie’s driving rhythm guitar, transcendent lead vocals and pure tenor were an essential part of the band’s success (over 600,000 records sold not to mention the platinum selling single “Wagon Wheel”), but nowhere in OCMS’s catalog does his instrumental artistry and vocal prowess shine as in this new…

Wolfhoppers are a new orchestral rock ensemble based in Minneapolis. Born out of the Second-Hand Opera Artist Collective, bandleader Dave Afdahl teams up with Tim Binger (cello, accordion), Joe Finstrom (electric and upright bass), Andy Myers (drums, percussion) and Pat Dougherty (guitar, banjo) to create sweeping, epic music that is touching and dramatic. Afdahl is inspired by a wide array of folk-images and stories, including his family farm in Norway.…

Vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Aby Wolf has been creating thoroughly unique music for years, between backup singing gigs with Dessa, Brother Ali, and others. Her latest project is a duo with multi-instrumentalist and producer Grant Cutler (LookBook, Solid Gold, Zoo Animal, Jeremy Messersmith). This exciting new collaboration promises to straddle several genres, creating soundscapes that are at once lush and minimal, groove-oriented and sparse.

World Party

Since they made international waves with their 1986 hit, “Ship of Fools,” World Party has earned critical acclaim and an admirable following at every turn. The band’s records have been few, but excellent, eliciting comparisons to other bands with few records but little filler on them, like the Velvet Underground and Nick Lowe. World Party frontman Karl Wallinger has a singular reputation for crafting pristine pop songs. Not only has…
