J-Train at the Dakota Performances are presented by and for the new generation of jazz musicians.

A Non-Profit Organization dedicated to bringing jazz and education together. Watch for a Calendar of
J-train events and participate in seminars with the worlds best jazz musicians. Jazz students of all ages are encouraged to attend these casual afternoon sessions with top notch jazz musicians from around the world. Join the J-Train and the Dakota in bringing these golden first hand experiences to our musical community.

This is the first year of Minnesota’s premier High
School jazz combo – The Dakota Combo. Sponsored
by the Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education and
the Macphail Center for the Arts, These students performed with national guest artist Bobby Watson under the direction of jazz artist Kelly Rossum.

Free concert performances on designated Saturday or Sunday afternoons combine jazz education with a unique performance experience, while encouraging an understanding, appreciation and enthusiasm for jazz. The events are free and sponsored by The Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education with funding from COMPAS: Community Programs in the Arts. Jazz Dialogues are informal gatherings that bring professional musicians (from young emerging artists to "living legends") together with students. They take place at the Dakota, at area schools and Homewood Studios, a communkity resource in north Minneapolis.
