SUMMARY:Jorma Kaukonen & John Hurlbut
DESCRIPTION:“a pioneer of San Francisco psychedelia” – Rolling Stone\n  \nJorma Kaukonen is one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music\, blues\, and rock. His storied career has already spanned a half-century. Moreover\, he is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy recipient. Jorma was at the forefront of popular rock and roll\, one of the founders of the San Francisco sound and a progenitor of Psychedelic Rock. Thus\, he is a founding member of two legendary bands\, Jefferson Airplane and the still-touring Hot Tuna.  \nJorma Kaukonen is a music legend and one of the finest singer-songwriters in his field. He continues to tour\, bringing his unique styling to old blues tunes while presenting new songs of weight and dimension. Here\, his secret is in playing spontaneous\, unfiltered music\, with an individual expression of personality. In 2016\, Jorma\, Jack Casady and the other members of Jefferson Airplane received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. There\, this was to recognize their contributions to American music. \nIn 2019 St. Martin’s Press published Jorma‘s autobiography\, Been So Long: My Life and Music\, Furthermore\, he wrote this to express his life both in and out of the music world. As Kaukonen describes\, “My story is my story. Having told bits and pieces of it over my lifetime to a treasured few\, it was time to tell all to a bigger audience… From rehearsals and jams in small apartments and tiny back rooms to Monterey\, Woodstock\, Altamont\, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame\, the world of the Grammys and beyond… this is part of the road I live on. This is my embryonic journey and much\, much more!” \nRecommended for fans of Hot Tuna\, Jefferson Airplane\, Leo Kottke and Doc Watson.

SUMMARY:The Cactus Blossoms
DESCRIPTION:“tightly woven harmonies.” – New York Times\n  \nAt its best\, harmony duo singing can transform simple math into a magic trick. One plus one\, instead of equaling two\, suddenly yields an unexpected third thing. An upper-case ONE. A universal hum. A deep vibration that encompasses two different points of view. Here\, brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum\, aka The Cactus Blossoms\, once again prove themselves to be among the most adept – and distinctive – modern practitioners of that magic. However\, like any great magician\, The Cactus Blossoms can’t – or won’t – fully explain the illusion they create.  \n“Harmonies are a big part of our sound\, but in some ways they’re the part we focus on the least\,” says Burkum. “We put most of our attention and energy into the songs themselves and then the harmonies just happen.” \nThere’s all kinds of magic happening on their latest\, 2024’s Every Time I Think About You. Moreover\, it’s a record that sounds more like a band than any other in the Cactus Blossoms discography. Here\, Jeremy Hanson (drums)\, Jacob Hanson (guitar) and Phillip Hicks (bass) contribute to that full-band sound. “There She Goes” casts its romantic regret against a danceable bop beat. Then\, the title track is a heart-wrencher about loss and letting go. \n“Even if you don’t set out to write songs with a theme in mind it seems like one usually presents itself\,” says Torrey. “This record keeps returning to the idea of ‘moving on’ — from one place to another\, from people and situations that bring you down\, from loss and grief.” \nRecommended for fans of The Everly Brothers\, Margo Price\, Pokey LaFarge and Charlie Parr.

SUMMARY:Jane Siberry
DESCRIPTION:“One of those rare artists who can crack brains and break hearts at the same time.” — Village Voice\n  \nJane Siberry is one of Canada’s most original and influential singer-songwriters. Best known for transcendent works like “Calling All Angels”\, “Love Is Everything”\, and the iconic “Mimi on the Beach”\, she has created a singular body of work that defies categorization. Her haunting contribution to The Crow soundtrack\, “It Can’t Rain All the Time”\, continues to resonate three decades later. \nDespite a prolific career\, Siberry reflects: “I feel like I’m inching my way toward my prime.” \n2025 and 2026 are big years for Siberry. In 2025\, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted her. Additionally\, she won the Polaris Legends Award for her iconic album The Speckless Sky. Then in 2026\, she returns with her sixteenth album\, Season One: In the Thicket of Our Own Unconsciousness. She expects Season Two and Three to follow later in 2026 with a North American tour afterward. Here\, Siberry continues to redefine what it means to be an independent\, visionary artist. \nAfter a decade-long recording pause\, Siberry returns with a highly anticipated gathering of songs. They are interwoven with musical and spoken segues that she calls the matrix\, making the album play like a musical Netflix series. Furthermore\, she explores themes of flickering consciousness\, compassion\, and rigorous self-reckoning. Siberry calls them “the moments in between.” \nRecommended for fans of Rickie Lee Jones\, Kate Bush\, k.d. lang and Indigo Girls.

SUMMARY:Midwest Mavens: The Foxgloves
DESCRIPTION:“infectious energy and joy radiating off the stage” – Adventures in Americana\n  \nThe Foxgloves are an all-women Americana/Newgrass band out of the Twin Cities. Here\, they have been a vibrant part of the Midwest music scene since 2019. Their vibrant four-part harmonies share stories that feel weathered and deeply human\, whether they are bright and driving\, or shadowed and searching. Live\, the energy shifts from song to song and never lets up\, from lean-in moments to joyous\, foot-stomping tunes. Moreover\, their high-energy performances and musical depth have swept them onto big stages throughout the region. For example\, Blue Ox Music Festival\, Boats and Bluegrass\, First Avenue Mainroom\, and Big Top Chautauqua. Furthermore\, this powerful band is making moves you’ll want to witness. \n \nLaPlant Road is the duo of two childhood friends\, Emily LaPlant and Liz Ashworth\, who grew up in the tundra of Northern Minnesota. They found warmth and purpose in the music shared by the dwellers of LaPlant Road. There\, it was named after early settlers who established themselves in the area a century prior. Together\, Liz and Emily work to create new sounds\, incorporating influence from their favorite genres. Then\, they craft an audio ode to many of the best things in their childhood: music\, family\, and friends. Moreover\, both ladies are multi-instrumentalists with a dynamic\, harmonious vocal blend. \n \nLanue comes to us from Duluth as a project that stands firmly in front of a fresh creative backdrop. There\, Sarah Krueger culled the name from the title of a poem on a thrift store shelf. Krueger continues to amplify her knack for straightforward and earnest songwriting. Also\, she maintains a vocal delivery that sits like honey over layers of warm synths\, guitars\, and percussion. Here\, Lanue builds a catalogue that puts the song at the center of the creative process.  \nRecommended for fans of Trampled by Turtles\, Della Mae\, Pert Near Sandstone and Steep Canyon Rangers.

SUMMARY:Louisiana Calling
DESCRIPTION:“fusing blues\, Latin\, classic R&B\, zydeco\, Cajun\, Tex-Mex\, and roots rock” – AllMusic\n  \nNew frontiers fit nicely atop the boundary-breaking career of singer songwriter and slide guitar icon Sonny Landreth. He has performed live with Buddy Guy and John Hiatt in theaters and arenas around the United States. Also\, post-New Orleans Jazz Fest jamming on bayou rhythms with Oteil Burbridge and Johnny Vidacovich. Further\, he has recorded and played live with ukulele phenom Jake Shimabukuro at The Blue Note in Hawaii. Thus\, it has been a noteworthy couple of years for the two time Grammy nominee. And those are just his side projects. \nLandreth explains his continually expanding musical horizons. “One of the things I love about collaborations with other artists is the element of surprise. When the chemistry is there\, it is always inspiring to find new twists and turns that up the game creatively.” \nWhat if Americana actually encompassed ALL of North America? You’d have the Franco-Acadian inflections of Canada\, as best exemplified by the accordion. Then\, you’d have blues and jazz\, the U.S.’s most original art form. Also\, the lilting grace and fiery passion of the music of Mexico. You’d also have New Orleans’ premiere distillers of this continental musical mélange\, The Iguanas. \nTheir three-decade ride has taken them all over the map musically and geographically. However\, the inescapable patina of their hometown infuses every note they play. They have produced eight studio albums among countless tours and Jazz Fest appearances. They survived a flood that did its best to take their adopted city with it. Therefore\, it’s a testament to the band’s endurance that the same four guys that started playing in the early 1990s are still together. \nRecommended for fans of The Radiators\, Paul Thorn\, Tab Benoit and Los Lobos.  \n📸: Robley Dupleix

SUMMARY:The Belfast Cowboys
DESCRIPTION:“conjures up the spirit and the songs of Ireland’s greatest export” – Chicago Tribune\n  \nThe Belfast Cowboys is a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison. Entering their third decade\, they are adept at mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter/guitarist Terry Walsh\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene. They have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002. \nTerry Walsh got his start playing in various Twin Cities rock bands. He toured as Slim Dunlap’s bass player in 1997\, opening for Son Volt. In 2001 Terry hit upon the idea of forming a Van Morrison tribute band. Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002. \nMany musicians have played with the band\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established. It includes Dan Kowalke (guitar\, vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota (keyboards\, backing vocals). The horn section includes Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare (sax\, flute). Bandleader Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano). \nThe band has expanded its content over the years to include rock and soul covers. Terry’s own originals have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, and New York’s Times Square. Once they opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people. \nRecommended for fans of Bruce Springsteen\, G.B. Leighton\, Tina and the B-Sides and Van Morrison.

SUMMARY:Sarah Morris & Molly Dean
DESCRIPTION:Two of Minneapolis’ most compelling songwriters share the stage for an evening rooted in craft\, connection\, and storytelling.\n  \nSarah Morris brings her crystalline voice and award-winning Americana songwriting\, pairing technical precision with emotional depth that lingers. Here\, her stories have been honed from conservatory training to national stages. Molly Dean joins the evening with a genre-blending approach that mixes folk\, indie\, and singer-songwriter influences. Additionally\, Molly will share songs from her latest release Interwoven. Together\, the evening offers engaging\, intimate performances – a night of thoughtful\, well-crafted music and storytelling.  \nMolly Dean is a Minneapolis-based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist known for her versatile\, genre-blending sound. Her music draws from folk\, indie\, and singer-songwriter traditions\, with a focus on clear melodies\, thoughtful lyrics\, and strong musicianship. \nHer latest release\, Interwoven\, explores themes of connection\, personal growth\, and shared experience. The album reflects years of performing in a wide range of settings\, both in the U.S. and internationally. There\, she appears at folk festivals and theaters to collaborative projects and solo shows. \nOften described as “deceptively simple” and “enrapturing\,” Molly Dean’s music is direct\, intentional\, and emotionally grounded. Moreover\, Molly invites listeners into songs that feel honest\, accessible\, and resonant. \nSarah Morris aims to document the glorious details of our messy\, magical lives. Also\, she is a 2018 Kerrville New Folk Winner\, and the Midwest Country Music Organization named her Songwriter of the Year three times. Called “A bright\, clear\, brilliant songwriter” (L’Etoile Magazine)\, Morris wields a keen eye and a captivating voice. Further\, she offers poignant and relatable songs with timeless melodies. \n“What a voice\, never showy or seeking the limelight\, just impressive within the requirements of the song and that in itself\, in this day and age\, is a rare thing.” – Dancing About Architecture \nRecommended for fans of Brandi Carlile\, Pieta Brown\, Patty Griffin and Birds of Chicago.

SUMMARY:Rogue Valley
DESCRIPTION:“Koza is a rare talent… the band around him occupies similar rarefied air.” –No Depression\n  \nRogue Valley is an Americana band based in the Twin Cities. Here\, the blend of urban development and natural landscape converge along the shores of the Mississippi River. The band raced onto the local scene a little over a decade ago\, with four full-length albums in a single year. Then\, in 2016 the band followed up with the anthemic\, twangy surf-rock collection radiate/dissolve. However\, since then it’s been mostly sporadic social media posts claiming\, “Coming Soon.” \nIndividually\, the band members have all remained occupied. Vocalist Linnea Mohn shares the stage with singer-songwriters Aby Wolf and Jonatha Brooke. Drummer Luke Anderson and guitarist Peter Sieve have joined up with the Iowa-based Lissie. Also\, bassist Cody McKinney continues to push boundaries with his compositions and collaborations. Since Rogue Valley’s last release\, songwriter-vocalist Chris Koza has released three solo albums (Sleepwalkers Part 1 & 2\, and the instrumental On Horseshoe Lake). Additionally\, in 2022 he joined the legendary Gordon Lightfoot on a run that would become his final Midwest tour. \nNow the hum of optimism surrounding new music is beginning its tangible crescendo. The new album\, 2023’s Shell Game\, is a nod to natural and created structures that both contain and obscure. \nA cocoon yields a butterfly; a riverbed holds a story; a body houses a soul. A shell mirrors the meditative drone of an ocean crashing onto itself. For every journey\, there are moments and minutiae in between as bright or dark as any greater narrative. Shell Game roams familiar territory and also furthers the idea of Americana and the Rogue Valley aesthetic.  \n \nPianist Stephen Wallack has always been drawn to instrumental music. Inspired by the grandiose feelings of George Winston’s music and the rich imagery within film scores\, Wallack has released six albums of original music. His latest\, 2025’s Open\, is his journey to connect with a deeper self-awareness and a greater hope that we can all find inner peace. \nRecommended for fans of Lissie\, Jeremy Messersmith\, Jenny Lewis and Birds of Chicago.

Moreover\, Clifton is the first Creole musician to be recognized with a Grammy Award. \nRaised in this indigenous American culture with its own distinctive language\, cuisine and music\, C.J. delivers soulful vocals along with jaw-dropping masterful accordion-driven rock\, Zydeco and blues. \nC.J. spent his childhood in the tough tenement housing projects of Port Arthur\, Texas. C.J. joined his father’s band on his twenty-first birthday. His first gig was playing for the opening of the now world-renowned Antone’s in Austin\, Texas. \nOn the road\, his father showed him how to front a world class touring band. He taught C.J. how to run the family business and how to develop his lifelong passion for music into a career. When Clifton died in 1987 his son\, C.J.\, adopted the Red Hot Louisiana Band. Moreover\, he recorded his debut album for the great American independent label Arhoolie Records. \nC.J. has also played with John Mayall\, The Gin Blossoms\, Ray Parker\, Jr.\, Joe Sample\, Jimmie Vaughan\, Sonny Landreth and Buckwheat Zydeco. Also\, The Jon Stewart Show and CNN have featured him. Additionally\, he has performed at numerous music festivals around the world. Further\, he is a consistent crowd pleaser for The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. \nAttending a C.J. Chenier show is a transformative experience. You may come in tired and beat up just from living in this world – but you will leave renewed and happy.  And that is the promise C.J. makes. “You can’t come to my show and stay unhappy. You’re going to break a smile before too long. This is happy music.” \nRecommended for fans of Terrance Simien\, Buckwheat Zydeco\, Queen Ida and Chubby Carrier.

One\, whether or not they believe in a loving higher power and two\, who they decide to choose as a lifelong romantic partner. This song is referring to both of those and the choices I’ve made.” \n“Stone Gossard and Regan Hagar from Loosegroove Records helped me edit the forty-eight down to eleven. DESCRIPTION:Valentine’s Menu Add-On – 7pm Show \n\n  \n\n\n“a guaranteed good time… A local treasure” – MinnPost\n  \nDan Newton\, accordion and vocals\nEric Mohring\, mandolin\, fiddle and vocals\nBrian Barnes\, guitar and vocals\nErik Lillestol\, bass\nJoe Steinger\, percussion\nElizabeth Rowan\, percussion\nPrudence Johnson\, vocals \nDan Newton’s Café Accordion Orchestra (CAO) performs an eclectic mix full of French flair\, Latin heat and Bohemian attitude. The heart of the CAO repertoire is the romantic\, gypsy-influenced valse-musette. Then\, the group complements the musettes with swing\, ballads\, tangos\, cha-chas\, rumbas\, and cumbias to create a wonderfully varied show. Moreover\, they inject their music with good humor and expressive abandon.  \nCAO is led by Dan Newton on accordion and vocals\, with Eric Mohring on mandolin\, violin and vocals. Also\, Brian Barnes on guitar and vocals\, Erik Lillestol on bass and vocals\, and Joe Steinger on percussion. CAO has been delighting audiences and dancers alike since 1995.  \nOne might wonder how a group of musicians in Minnesota end up forming a band that plays French musette. Additionally\, hot club swing\, Tin Pan Alley\, Latin music and cinematic themes. There\, it all started with a tune composed in 1992 by Newton. Dan had been introduced to the Parisian sidewalk cafe accordion sound while teaching at a music camp. Then\, a friend commented that one of the tunes in particular sounded like “cafe accordion” music.  \nPrudence Johnson’s career has taken her from honky-tonks to Carnegie Hall\, from the theater stage to the Silver Screen\, from the Midwest to the Middle East. Also\, with her roots in folk and country music\, Prudence developed a passion for jazz. \nRecommended for fans of Paris Combo\, Pearl Django\, Rio Nido and A Prairie Home Companion.

SUMMARY:Chastity Brown
DESCRIPTION:“brooding soul eloquence… and folk-infected naturalness.”  – NPR\n  \nGospel and blues\, melodic sensibility\, and honest emotion… \nBased in Minnesota\, with roots in Tennessee\, Chastity Brown grew up surrounded by country and soul music. In the gospel church of her childhood\, she played saxophone and drums. Also\, she found her singing voice and a passion for music. NPR’s “Favorite Sessions\,” CMT\, American Songwriter\, the London Times and Paste Magazine have all featured her. \nLike so many artists who endured the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown\, Chastity instinctively turned inward. At first\, she did this out of self-preservation\, and then the new songs kept coming and coming. Since finishing her last album\, 2017’s Silhouette Of Sirens\, she estimates she’s written nearly 100 new songs. Ten of these found their way onto her latest\, 2022’s Sing To The Walls. \nSing To The Walls is a sonically expansive album\, mining the roots of Americana\, folk\, and soul music. However\, Chastity delivers her stories in a style that feels remarkably timely\, modern\, and forward-thinking. Here\, these songs unfold with Chastity’s expressive voice and expansive melodies\, leading the listener through intertwining tendrils of atmospheric sounds. \nBetween writing sessions she’s been vibing to chilled-out\, forward thinking artists like Leon Bridges\, H.E.R.\, SZA\, and Daniel Caesar. Like them\, she expands beyond genre and her folk/roots history to encompass her appreciation of all Black American musical art forms. “I also want to poke at what the blues is\,” Chastity reflects. “It has a lot of stereotypes\, like it’s mostly only played by blue-eyed white guys now. But what about Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey? I feel so closely connected\, in a pure\, undeviating lineage\, to the heritage of being a Black\, queer blues woman.” \nRecommended for fans of H.E.R.\, Rhiannon Giddens\, Valerie June and Brittany Howard.

SUMMARY:Tom Rush
DESCRIPTION:“one of my main influences” – James Taylor\n  \nTom Rush is a gifted musician and performer whose shows offer a musical celebration. Here\, he leads a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been\, can be\, and will become. His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor and warm\, expressive voice have made him a legend to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific storytelling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads\, and the passion of gritty blues. \nNow celebrating five decades of touring\, Tom thrills audiences here and abroad with his classic hits. These include “No Regrets”\, “Circle Game”\, “Remember Song”\, “Urge for Going” and “Merrimack County”. \nRush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the 1960s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Also\, his more recent Club 47 concerts brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in Massachusetts when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic. Additionally\, his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. Also\, he’s written several new songs. He’s doing what he loves\, and what audiences love him for: knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times. \nRecommended for fans of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne\, Arlo Guthrie and John Sebastian.

SUMMARY:Mark O'Connor's Appalachian Christmas
DESCRIPTION:“a national treasure” – Wynton Marsalis\n  \nThree-time Grammy winning composer and fiddler Mark O’Connor has created several arrangements of Christmas classics. Here\, he fashions a wondrous mixture of both instrumental and vocal music in bluegrass and other American music genres. The show features fresh takes on traditional songs with a few original compositions included. His renditions are playful and joyous\, but can be strikingly earnest too. Mark’s touring ensemble includes his wife Maggie O’Connor on fiddle and vocals. Additionally\, he will bring a variety of guest musicians on each tour. \nHaving toured An Appalachian Christmas nine consecutive years\, O’Connor and his ensemble have a dynamic energy on stage. Then\, they bring their individual expertise to holiday themes and classics in the most delightful and musically satisfying way! \n“…the reason we were all there was Mark O’Connor\, in all his lyrical perfection. There is no more aching line in contemporary American music than the melody in his Appalachia Waltz. Also\, the joy of his mandolin duet with his son in Macedonia\, a song Mark wrote years ago\, was pure delight. O’Connor is a composer and arranger of the highest order\, creating intriguing harmonies and rhythms in recognizable folk music. \nHe elevates a music with humble beginnings to impeccable elegance\, creating a whole different category. While the instrumentation is traditional in country music\, his deft treatment of the songs and choice of performers brings out unexpected elements. He’s more than a performer; he’s a suitor to the music\, to the instruments\, a passionate devotee of traditional forms and tools. And\, his adoration is evident in every note he writes and every chord he plays.”  by Meg Currell EDGE Media Network Contributor \nRecommended for fans of Sam Bush\, Yo-Yo Ma\, Nickel Creek and Edgar Meyer.

SUMMARY:Leo Kottke: Live at The Ordway
DESCRIPTION:“wild\, highly technical blend of bluegrass\, folk\, and jazz and classical” – Rolling Stone\n  \nProlific guitarist Leo Kottke boasts an impressive body of work and an unrivaled fingerpicking style. His forty-plus albums over four decades have earned him two Grammy nominations and widespread acclaim. Drawing inspiration from folk\, blues and jazz\, he plays his signature six-string and twelve-string guitars with effortless aptitude\, a big heart and an even bigger grin.  \nKottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in twelve different states\, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child. There\, he flirted with both violin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age eleven. \nHe added a love for the country blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Philip Sousa and Preston Epps. Then\, Kottke joined the Navy underage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic. He served on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel submarine. \nDischarged in 1964\, he settled in the Twin Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis’ Scholar Coffeehouse. Further\, this venue had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. \nKottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations. Also\, a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin\, Milwaukee. He also received a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College. \nCellist Olivia Diercks and violinist Karla Peters are The OK Factor. This new-classical crossover duo has one word to describe their musical connection: lucky. Here\, the almost telepathic way they respond to one another is palpable to the audiences they capture during performances. Moreover\, their spontaneity and joy shine through. MPR calls them “genre-bending” and Wausau Pilot & Review hails their “pure magic”. \n“influences in Americana and Irish/Gaelic fiddle styles\, but with the virtuosity of classical performers” – MPR \nRecommended for fans of John Fahey\, Ry Cooder\, Michael Hedges and Peter Lang.

In particular\, Lanford Wilson\, who would later go on to win a Pulitzer Prize for his play Talley’s Folly. Lanford taught me so much about the writing process. SUMMARY:Brett Dennen: Art Is Life Tour
DESCRIPTION:“funkily elegant strands of timeless pop” – Paste\n  \nThrough his career\, Brett Dennen has established himself as the kind of singer-songwriter who finds inspiration in the human condition. Here\, he digs into the nooks and crannies\, exploring pain\, joy\, sadness\, and all points in between. \n2024’s If It Takes Forever\, the California native’s eighth solo album and first full-length since 2021’s See the World\, is no exception. The warm\, immersive collection boasts deeply felt sentiments\, underpinned by rich acoustic guitars and Dennen’s earnest vocals. Here\, his sound ranges through dusky Americana\, Tom Petty-esque harmonica-driven blues\, rootsy indie\, and meditative folk-rock. \nIf It Takes Forever emerged out of a tough 2023 for Dennen\, as he was dealing with the death of his dad. “He was such a strong figure in my life that I depended on so much as both a dad and a best friend\,” he said. “And I knew immediately in order for me to deal with his death\, the best thing I could do was to make an album about it.” \nUnderstandably\, Dennen took his time coming up with song ideas for If It Takes Forever. To that end\, he spent nearly a year simply thinking about “what kind of album I was going to make. What kinds of songs were going to be on the album\,” he says. “I jotted down ideas on paper\, made little voice memos with ideas of songs\, melodies and choruses. Or sometimes even just talked into a voice recorder.” \nSince debuting in 2004\, Dennen has amassed a loyal fanbase thanks to a steady touring schedule. Moreover\, he plays alongside artists like John Mayer\, Jason Mraz and G Love and Special Sauce. Also\, Dennen has also had multiple Top Ten hits on the AAA radio charts. \nRecommended for fans of Joshua Radin\, Ray Lamontagne\, Bright Eyes and Mason Jennings.

SUMMARY:Keb' Mo'
DESCRIPTION:“soul and passion… consistent good vibes” – American Songwriter\n  \nIt’s a little over 2\,000 miles from Compton to Nashville. Drop the needle on Keb’ Mo’s latest album\, 2022’s Good To Be\, and you can make the trip in under four minutes. \n“I’ve lived in Nashville for the last eleven years\,” says Keb’\, “but Compton has always been my home. Finding a way to connect those two places on this album was a powerful thing for me. It felt like something I needed to do.” \nGood To Be is a celebration of roots and resilience\, of growth and gratitude\, of hope and memory. Here\, the songs draw on country\, soul\, and blues to forge a sound that transcends genre and geography. Then\, he weaves together past and present into a heartwarming tapestry spanning more than forty years of sonic evolution. Though Keb’ worked with a wide variety of collaborators on the project\, it remains a deeply cohesive work. Additionally\, it is anchored by the five-time Grammy winner’s magnetic vocal delivery and relentless optimism.  \n“I believe that music has the power to heal\,” Keb’ explains\, “and I wanted this album to make people feel good.” \nFor Keb’ Mo’\, that journey began nearly half a century ago. Then\, he landed his first major gig in Papa John Creach’s band at the age of twenty-one. Over the next twenty years\, Keb’ would go on to establish himself as a respected guitarist\, songwriter\, and arranger. Though he recorded a one-off album in 1980 under his birth name\, Kevin Moore\, it wasn’t until 1994 that he would introduce the world to Keb’ Mo’ with the release of his widely acclaimed self-titled debut. Critics quickly took note of Keb’s modern\, genre-bending take on old school sounds. \nRecommended for fans of Taj Mahal\, Robert Cray\, Tab Benoit and Ruthie Foster.
