DESCRIPTION:Valentine’s Menu Add-On – FEB 6: 7pm Show\nValentine’s Menu Add-On – FEB 7: 6:30pm Show\nValentine’s Menu Add-On – FEB 7: 9pm Show\n*Pre-purchase and receive a free bottle of Washington Hill Merlot.\n \n\n  \n\n\n“ragged\, intimate voice and simple ruminations” – Rolling Stone\n  \nMinneapolis songwriter Mason Jennings recently released a new video for the single\, “Only Lovers Welcome” from his brand-new album. Now\, 2023’s Underneath the Roses is available.  \nHere\, Jennings writes that the songs from Underneath the Roses were “written in an unprecedented burst.” This followed the birth of his son\, Western\, in March 2022. Jennings explains\, “I hadn’t written any songs in about a year. I had been dealing with the psychological after-effects of the pandemic as well as the loss of my dad. So\, when Western was born\, I didn’t expect to be writing much. But immediately he was responding to music in a very intense way. For this album\, between May and November 2022\, I wrote forty-eight songs! They certainly uplifted me and connected me with the creative spirit\, and spirit in general\, again. They cover all kinds of ground but\, when I listen back\, I think the central theme is overcoming fear with love.” \nJennings also released a video for “No Ordinary Friend\,” which he explains “Depicts two of the most important decisions a person can make. One\, whether or not they believe in a loving higher power and two\, who they decide to choose as a lifelong romantic partner. This song is referring to both of those and the choices I’ve made.” \n“Stone Gossard and Regan Hagar from Loosegroove Records helped me edit the forty-eight down to eleven. I then enlisted the help of my Painted Shield bandmates to record the songs.” \nJennings and Gossard are ongoing collaborators in the band Painted Shield\, who released their debut album in 2021. Their album was also released on Loosegroove\, the influential indie label that Gossard founded back in 1994. \nRecommended for fans of Charlie Parr\, M. Ward\, G. Love & Special Sauce and Jack Johnson.

SUMMARY:Cafe Accordion Orchestra w/Prudence Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Valentine’s Menu Add-On – 7pm Show \n\n  \n\n\n“a guaranteed good time… A local treasure” – MinnPost\n  \nDan Newton\, accordion and vocals\nEric Mohring\, mandolin\, fiddle and vocals\nBrian Barnes\, guitar and vocals\nErik Lillestol\, bass\nJoe Steinger\, percussion\nElizabeth Rowan\, percussion\nPrudence Johnson\, vocals \nDan Newton’s Café Accordion Orchestra (CAO) performs an eclectic mix full of French flair\, Latin heat and Bohemian attitude. The heart of the CAO repertoire is the romantic\, gypsy-influenced valse-musette. Then\, the group complements the musettes with swing\, ballads\, tangos\, cha-chas\, rumbas\, and cumbias to create a wonderfully varied show. Moreover\, they inject their music with good humor and expressive abandon.  \nCAO is led by Dan Newton on accordion and vocals\, with Eric Mohring on mandolin\, violin and vocals. Also\, Brian Barnes on guitar and vocals\, Erik Lillestol on bass and vocals\, and Joe Steinger on percussion. CAO has been delighting audiences and dancers alike since 1995.  \nOne might wonder how a group of musicians in Minnesota end up forming a band that plays French musette. Additionally\, hot club swing\, Tin Pan Alley\, Latin music and cinematic themes. There\, it all started with a tune composed in 1992 by Newton. Dan had been introduced to the Parisian sidewalk cafe accordion sound while teaching at a music camp. Then\, a friend commented that one of the tunes in particular sounded like “cafe accordion” music.  \nPrudence Johnson’s career has taken her from honky-tonks to Carnegie Hall\, from the theater stage to the Silver Screen\, from the Midwest to the Middle East. Also\, with her roots in folk and country music\, Prudence developed a passion for jazz. \nRecommended for fans of Paris Combo\, Pearl Django\, Rio Nido and A Prairie Home Companion.

SUMMARY:Chastity Brown
DESCRIPTION:“brooding soul eloquence… and folk-infected naturalness.”  – NPR\n  \nGospel and blues\, melodic sensibility\, and honest emotion… \nBased in Minnesota\, with roots in Tennessee\, Chastity Brown grew up surrounded by country and soul music. In the gospel church of her childhood\, she played saxophone and drums. Also\, she found her singing voice and a passion for music. NPR’s “Favorite Sessions\,” CMT\, American Songwriter\, the London Times and Paste Magazine have all featured her. \nLike so many artists who endured the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown\, Chastity instinctively turned inward. At first\, she did this out of self-preservation\, and then the new songs kept coming and coming. Since finishing her last album\, 2017’s Silhouette Of Sirens\, she estimates she’s written nearly 100 new songs. Ten of these found their way onto her latest\, 2022’s Sing To The Walls. \nSing To The Walls is a sonically expansive album\, mining the roots of Americana\, folk\, and soul music. However\, Chastity delivers her stories in a style that feels remarkably timely\, modern\, and forward-thinking. Here\, these songs unfold with Chastity’s expressive voice and expansive melodies\, leading the listener through intertwining tendrils of atmospheric sounds. \nBetween writing sessions she’s been vibing to chilled-out\, forward thinking artists like Leon Bridges\, H.E.R.\, SZA\, and Daniel Caesar. Like them\, she expands beyond genre and her folk/roots history to encompass her appreciation of all Black American musical art forms. “I also want to poke at what the blues is\,” Chastity reflects. “It has a lot of stereotypes\, like it’s mostly only played by blue-eyed white guys now. But what about Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey? I feel so closely connected\, in a pure\, undeviating lineage\, to the heritage of being a Black\, queer blues woman.” \nRecommended for fans of H.E.R.\, Rhiannon Giddens\, Valerie June and Brittany Howard.

SUMMARY:Tom Rush
DESCRIPTION:“one of my main influences” – James Taylor\n  \nTom Rush is a gifted musician and performer whose shows offer a musical celebration. Here\, he leads a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been\, can be\, and will become. His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor and warm\, expressive voice have made him a legend to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific storytelling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads\, and the passion of gritty blues. \nNow celebrating five decades of touring\, Tom thrills audiences here and abroad with his classic hits. These include “No Regrets”\, “Circle Game”\, “Remember Song”\, “Urge for Going” and “Merrimack County”. \nRush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the 1960s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Also\, his more recent Club 47 concerts brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in Massachusetts when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic. Additionally\, his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. Also\, he’s written several new songs. He’s doing what he loves\, and what audiences love him for: knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times. \nRecommended for fans of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne\, Arlo Guthrie and John Sebastian.

SUMMARY:Mark O'Connor's Appalachian Christmas
DESCRIPTION:“a national treasure” – Wynton Marsalis\n  \nThree-time Grammy winning composer and fiddler Mark O’Connor has created several arrangements of Christmas classics. Here\, he fashions a wondrous mixture of both instrumental and vocal music in bluegrass and other American music genres. The show features fresh takes on traditional songs with a few original compositions included. His renditions are playful and joyous\, but can be strikingly earnest too. Mark’s touring ensemble includes his wife Maggie O’Connor on fiddle and vocals. Additionally\, he will bring a variety of guest musicians on each tour. \nHaving toured An Appalachian Christmas nine consecutive years\, O’Connor and his ensemble have a dynamic energy on stage. Then\, they bring their individual expertise to holiday themes and classics in the most delightful and musically satisfying way! \n“…the reason we were all there was Mark O’Connor\, in all his lyrical perfection. There is no more aching line in contemporary American music than the melody in his Appalachia Waltz. Also\, the joy of his mandolin duet with his son in Macedonia\, a song Mark wrote years ago\, was pure delight. O’Connor is a composer and arranger of the highest order\, creating intriguing harmonies and rhythms in recognizable folk music. \nHe elevates a music with humble beginnings to impeccable elegance\, creating a whole different category. While the instrumentation is traditional in country music\, his deft treatment of the songs and choice of performers brings out unexpected elements. He’s more than a performer; he’s a suitor to the music\, to the instruments\, a passionate devotee of traditional forms and tools. And\, his adoration is evident in every note he writes and every chord he plays.”  by Meg Currell EDGE Media Network Contributor \nRecommended for fans of Sam Bush\, Yo-Yo Ma\, Nickel Creek and Edgar Meyer.

SUMMARY:Leo Kottke: Live at The Ordway
DESCRIPTION:“wild\, highly technical blend of bluegrass\, folk\, and jazz and classical” – Rolling Stone\n  \nProlific guitarist Leo Kottke boasts an impressive body of work and an unrivaled fingerpicking style. His forty-plus albums over four decades have earned him two Grammy nominations and widespread acclaim. Drawing inspiration from folk\, blues and jazz\, he plays his signature six-string and twelve-string guitars with effortless aptitude\, a big heart and an even bigger grin.  \nKottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in twelve different states\, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child. There\, he flirted with both violin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age eleven. \nHe added a love for the country blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Philip Sousa and Preston Epps. Then\, Kottke joined the Navy underage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic. He served on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel submarine. \nDischarged in 1964\, he settled in the Twin Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis’ Scholar Coffeehouse. Further\, this venue had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. \nKottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations. Also\, a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin\, Milwaukee. He also received a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College. \nCellist Olivia Diercks and violinist Karla Peters are The OK Factor. This new-classical crossover duo has one word to describe their musical connection: lucky. Here\, the almost telepathic way they respond to one another is palpable to the audiences they capture during performances. Moreover\, their spontaneity and joy shine through. MPR calls them “genre-bending” and Wausau Pilot & Review hails their “pure magic”. \n“influences in Americana and Irish/Gaelic fiddle styles\, but with the virtuosity of classical performers” – MPR \nRecommended for fans of John Fahey\, Ry Cooder\, Michael Hedges and Peter Lang.

SUMMARY:Brett Dennen: Art Is Life Tour
DESCRIPTION:“funkily elegant strands of timeless pop” – Paste\n  \nThrough his career\, Brett Dennen has established himself as the kind of singer-songwriter who finds inspiration in the human condition. Here\, he digs into the nooks and crannies\, exploring pain\, joy\, sadness\, and all points in between. \n2024’s If It Takes Forever\, the California native’s eighth solo album and first full-length since 2021’s See the World\, is no exception. The warm\, immersive collection boasts deeply felt sentiments\, underpinned by rich acoustic guitars and Dennen’s earnest vocals. Here\, his sound ranges through dusky Americana\, Tom Petty-esque harmonica-driven blues\, rootsy indie\, and meditative folk-rock. \nIf It Takes Forever emerged out of a tough 2023 for Dennen\, as he was dealing with the death of his dad. “He was such a strong figure in my life that I depended on so much as both a dad and a best friend\,” he said. “And I knew immediately in order for me to deal with his death\, the best thing I could do was to make an album about it.” \nUnderstandably\, Dennen took his time coming up with song ideas for If It Takes Forever. To that end\, he spent nearly a year simply thinking about “what kind of album I was going to make. What kinds of songs were going to be on the album\,” he says. “I jotted down ideas on paper\, made little voice memos with ideas of songs\, melodies and choruses. Or sometimes even just talked into a voice recorder.” \nSince debuting in 2004\, Dennen has amassed a loyal fanbase thanks to a steady touring schedule. Moreover\, he plays alongside artists like John Mayer\, Jason Mraz and G Love and Special Sauce. Also\, Dennen has also had multiple Top Ten hits on the AAA radio charts. \nRecommended for fans of Joshua Radin\, Ray Lamontagne\, Bright Eyes and Mason Jennings.

SUMMARY:Keb' Mo'
DESCRIPTION:“soul and passion… consistent good vibes” – American Songwriter\n  \nIt’s a little over 2\,000 miles from Compton to Nashville. Drop the needle on Keb’ Mo’s latest album\, 2022’s Good To Be\, and you can make the trip in under four minutes. \n“I’ve lived in Nashville for the last eleven years\,” says Keb’\, “but Compton has always been my home. Finding a way to connect those two places on this album was a powerful thing for me. It felt like something I needed to do.” \nGood To Be is a celebration of roots and resilience\, of growth and gratitude\, of hope and memory. Here\, the songs draw on country\, soul\, and blues to forge a sound that transcends genre and geography. Then\, he weaves together past and present into a heartwarming tapestry spanning more than forty years of sonic evolution. Though Keb’ worked with a wide variety of collaborators on the project\, it remains a deeply cohesive work. Additionally\, it is anchored by the five-time Grammy winner’s magnetic vocal delivery and relentless optimism.  \n“I believe that music has the power to heal\,” Keb’ explains\, “and I wanted this album to make people feel good.” \nFor Keb’ Mo’\, that journey began nearly half a century ago. Then\, he landed his first major gig in Papa John Creach’s band at the age of twenty-one. Over the next twenty years\, Keb’ would go on to establish himself as a respected guitarist\, songwriter\, and arranger. Though he recorded a one-off album in 1980 under his birth name\, Kevin Moore\, it wasn’t until 1994 that he would introduce the world to Keb’ Mo’ with the release of his widely acclaimed self-titled debut. Critics quickly took note of Keb’s modern\, genre-bending take on old school sounds. \nRecommended for fans of Taj Mahal\, Robert Cray\, Tab Benoit and Ruthie Foster.

SUMMARY:Sam Grisman Project
DESCRIPTION:“authenticity\, originality\, and passion” – The Bluegrass Situation\n  \nA Note From Sam: “The music that my father David Grisman and his close friend\, Jerry Garcia\, made in the early 1990s (in the house that I grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded\, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories. What I find most inspiring about this material is their camaraderie. Their love and joy for the music simply oozes out of each recording. It is also impressive how deeply they get beneath their favorite songs. Whether they are originals\, covers\, or traditional/old-time tunes\, the material was curated expertly. \n“My goal in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a platform for my friends and me to showcase our genuine passion and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music. By playing some of their beloved repertoires and sharing the original music that our own collective has to offer\, we will also show the impact that this music has had on our own individual musical voices. Ultimately\, there is nothing that makes me happier than playing great songs with my best friends. My hope is to share that happiness with audiences all over!” \nRecommended for fans of David Grisman\, Jerry Garcia\, Béla Fleck and Sierra Hull.

SUMMARY:Pat Donohue & Prairie All-Stars
DESCRIPTION:“one of the greatest fingerpickers in the world.” – Chet Atkins\n  \nFrom swing to jazz to bottleneck blues to folk\, Grammy-winning acoustic guitarist Pat Donohue plays it all. He does this with a flourish of artistry and melodic inspiration. Chet Atkins called Pat one of the greatest finger pickers in the world today; Leo Kottke called his playing “haunting.” \nPat is certainly one of the most listened-to finger pickers in the world. He was the guitarist for the Guys All-Star Shoe Band of Minnesota Public Radio’s A Prairie Home Companion. There\, Pat got to show off his savvy licks and distinctive original songs to millions of listeners each week. \nHis decade-long association with Prairie Home Companion led to some unusual gigs. DESCRIPTION:“conjures up the spirit and the songs of Ireland’s greatest export” – Chicago Tribune\n  \nThe Belfast Cowboys is a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison. Entering their third decade\, they are adept at mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter/guitarist Terry Walsh\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene. They have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002. \nTerry Walsh got his start playing in various Twin Cities rock bands. He toured as Slim Dunlap’s bass player in 1997\, opening for Son Volt. In 2001 Terry hit upon the idea of forming a Van Morrison tribute band. Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002. \nMany musicians have played with the band\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established. It includes Dan Kowalke (guitar\, vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota (keyboards\, backing vocals). The horn section includes Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare (sax\, flute). Bandleader Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano). \nThe band has expanded its content over the years to include rock and soul covers. Terry’s own originals have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, and New York’s Times Square. Once they opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people. \nRecommended for fans of Bruce Springsteen\, G.B. Leighton\, Tina and the B-Sides and Van Morrison.

SUMMARY:Sarah Morris: Say Yes Album Release
DESCRIPTION:“Sarah soars with ease… Wow.” – Americana Highways\n  \nSarah Morris has a habit of missing the forest. From the day the Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter picked up a guitar\, she’s been too busy crafting love letters to the details of the trees. Morris’ endearingly honest\, expertly penned songs encourage audiences to pull away from the big picture. Then\, we are invited to get caught up in the magic of our everyday minutia. Morris grants us permission to escape into stories at once hauntingly familiar and uniquely her own.  \n2023’s Here’s To You\, her fifth album of original material\, sees Morris shedding some country swagger. Thus\, this album favors a lusher\, more celestial sound. With layers of harmonies and synths orbiting her band’s guitar\, bass and drums\, Morris’ clarion voice shines brightly. Whether they’re celebration songs\, grief songs\, or gift songs\, you feel devotion to her craft in every line. Dave Franklin of The Big Takeover declared Here’s To You “a triumph. An album of space and restraint\, any note played\, every word uttered feels perfectly and purposely placed”.   \nIn addition to being a 2018 Kerrville New Folk winner\, she recently earned third place at the 2023 Songwriter Serenade. Also\, Morris was chosen as a finalist for Telluride Troubadour. Additionally\, she took second place at the 2016 MerleFest Chris Austin Songwriting Competition.  \nMorris is deeply committed to the Twin Cities’ life-giving music community. Here\, she hosts an online interview program called “Hey\, I Miss You” to amplify the work of her peers. As a writer\, lover\, mother\, and witness\, Morris invites us to join her in missing the forest for the trees. There\, her songs count and celebrate the glorious details of our messy\, magical\, everyday lives. \nRecommended for fans of JD Souther\, Suzy Bogguss\, Teddy Thompson and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

SUMMARY:Joan Osborne Sings The Songs of Bob Dylan
DESCRIPTION:“A fiercely intelligent\, no-nonsense singer.” – The New York Times\n  \nJoan Osborne released the critically acclaimed Songs of Bob Dylan in 2017. There\, her artistic and soulful reinterpretations of Dylan songs was an eye-opening moment in an already celebrated career. \nEight years after that milestone recording\, Osborne released the stunning Dylanology Live in April 2025. The captivating recording finds the gifted vocalist performing in front of a live audience. Moreover\, special guests Amy Helm\, Robert Randolph and Jackie Greene join her. Songs include “Spanish Harlem Incident”\, “Buckets Of Rain” “Masters Of War”. Also\, “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You” and “High Water (For Charley Patton)”. \nOsborne has never been an artist confined to one space as she continues to seamlessly blend into any genre. Furthermore\, she has continually proven this throughout her three-decade\, multi-Grammy nominated career. \nHer incredible\, distinctive voice always shines through her own songs. However\, she has also become one of her generation’s finest interpreters. Dylanology Live is yet another testament to her artistic range. \nIt’s been quite the journey since the woman AllMusic.com declared “the most gifted vocalist of her generation” moved from small-town Kentucky to attend NYU film school in the 1980s. Osborne’s astounding voice drew attention when she joined the fun at open mic nights in downtown clubs. Then\, that led to 1995’s Relish\, “that rare breed of album where critical consensus\, popular approval and enduring appeal unite” (American Songwriter). Since then\, she’s performed with Motown’s revered rhythm section the Funk Brothers and toured with the Grateful Dead. Here\, she first met and sang with Dylan. Further\, she’s harmonized with Stevie Wonder at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\, and duetted with Luciano Pavarotti. Additionally\, she co-headlined a tour with the legendary Mavis Staples. \nRecommended for fans of Bob Dylan\, Indigo Girls\, Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan.
