SUMMARY:Ben Sidran
DESCRIPTION:  \nBen Sidran’s love of music has led to work as pianist\, singer-songwriter\, author\, record producer and music journalist. Also\, he has accomplished many other things in his sixty-year career. Further\, he acts as his own short-order cook\, juggling his own career and his projects. He has produced Steve Miller\, Mose Allison\, Diana Ross\, Boz Scaggs\, Phil Upchurch\, Tony Williams\, Jon Hendricks\, Richie Cole and Van Morrison. He recorded his most recent solo album\, 2024’s Rainmaker\, in France and features a collection of original songs. He channels today’s complexities through his “hipster” filter and demonstrates why he is indeed the “first ever existential jazz rapper”.  \nIt’s been a long and varied journey for Sidran. As a six-year-old in Racine\, Wisconsin\, he played boogie-woogie piano\, leaning into his jazz records\, “literally like an Eskimo huddled around a fire”. Then\, he would grow up to play boogie-woogie piano around the world. He may be better known in Europe and Japan than in America. Also\, this is a fact of life for most jazz musicians. Despite that\, Ben Sidran is an American success story. \nHe’s a jazz pianist of international renown\, lyricist of a rock classic\, award-winning national broadcaster\, record and video producer. Also\, he’s a scholar\, author\, journalist\, and father to a second-generation musical prodigy. Sidran makes your average Renaissance man look like a slacker. \nHe is joined by his longtime bandmates and collaborators\, Billy Peterson on bass and Leo Sidran (his son) on drums. Also\, featuring special guest Ricky Peterson on organ. \nRecommended for fans of Mose Allison\, Marcia Ball\, Dan Hicks and Joey DeFrancesco.

SUMMARY:Naturally 7
DESCRIPTION:  \nNaturally 7 is unlike any vocal ensemble you’ve ever heard. No less than Quincy Jones has called them “the best a cappella group in the world”! \nThey are known worldwide for their extensive tours with Michael Bublé and as guests with Coldplay and Diana Ross. Moreover\, the New York-based septet is a band in the classic sense. They create the sounds of guitars\, bass\, horns\, keyboards\, drums\, and other instruments through the power of their voices. Here\, they call their signature style “vocal play.” \nThe band was founded in 1999 by brothers Roger and Warren Thomas. Then\, the group’s approach was cemented after wins in regional and national a cappella competitions. However\, the Thomases were faced with a decision. Should the group continue to just be voices only\, or part of a traditional band? Their solution: “why not both?” \nThe group released their acclaimed debut\, Non-Fiction\, in 2000 – a release blending gospel\, soul\, and pop. Then\, over the past quarter century\, Naturally 7 have recorded a dozen albums. Additionally\, they have appeared along with Ludacris on the title track of Quincy Jones’ 2010 release Q: Soul Bossa Nostra. Furthermore\, they have performed on stages worldwide with Stevie Wonder\, Quincy Jones\, Sarah Connor\, Lionel Richie\, The Roots\, and more. \nRecommended for fans of Take 6\, Raul Midon\, Boyz II Men and Anthony Hamilton. \n \n📸: Nina Sieber

Since its beginnings in 2000 the Clearwater Hot Club’s primary members have been Sam Miltich (lead guitar) and Matthew Miltich (upright bass). \nSam Miltich is a self-taught jazz guitarist born and raised in the woods of northern Minnesota. They are Mark Mullins (founding member\, trombone\, electric trombone and lead vocals)\, Greg Hicks (trombone/vocals)\, Chris Butcher (trombone). Also\, Bert Cotton (guitar)\, Matt Perrine (sousaphone) and Eric Bolivar (drums). Here\, Bonerama is one of the funkiest and most unique bands to ever come out of New Orleans. \nTheir original songs are extraordinary. Additionally\, they deliver blistering covers by Led Zeppelin\, The Beatles\, The Allman Brothers\, Jimi Hendrix\, and Black Sabbath. Thus\, Bonerama’s style is distinctive\, inimitable\, genuine\, one-of-a-kind sound is unmatched\, high-energy\, fun\, dynamic and bold. \nOver the years\, Bonerama has joined forces with many prominent musicians on stage or in the studio. For example\, R.E.M.\, Little Feat\, OK Go\, Nicole Atkins\, George Porter Jr.\, The Radiators\, Ivan Neville\, Galactic and many more. Moreover\, whoever Bonerama teams up with gets an interesting and personal take on Bonerama’s style. There\, they infuse a piece of their own genetics into the band vibe of whoever they are joining. Furthermore\, Bonerama’s sound is a mélange unlike anything else. By placing the trombones front and center stage as the lead instrument\, Bonerama is different in the best possible way. Here\, it is drenched with the New Orleans DNA that flows through the veins of the band’s members. \nRecommended for fans of Trombone Shorty\, Rebirth Brass Band\, Soul Rebels Brass Band and Galactic. \n \n📸: Marc Pagani

SUMMARY:Moore By Four
DESCRIPTION:  \nFeat. Sanford Moore\, Ginger Commodore\, Connie Evingson\, Dennis Spears\, and Ashley Commodore \nMoore By Four quickly established themselves as a fixture on the Twin Cities music scene upon their 1986 inception. There\, they started out at Ruby’s Cabaret in Minneapolis. The group performed sold-out concerts at the Guthrie and Fitzgerald Theaters and went on to tour Europe and Japan. Then\, they shared concert billing with Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Joe Williams\, Carmen McRae\, Sarah Vaughan and Dizzy Gillespie. Further\, they performed at concert halls and jazz festivals around the world. They’ve sung for the U.S. Olympic Committee\, the Super Bowl\, the Minnesota Twins\, Vikings and Timberwolves. Also\, former President and Mrs. Clinton\, Mikhail and Raisa Gorbachev\, Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel\, the King and Queen of Sweden. Additionally\, they’ve played countless special events\, benefits\, corporate functions\, colleges and universities\, concert halls and festivals in the U.S.\, Europe and Japan.  \nThe harmonies put forth by the four vocalists immediately invoke thoughts of Manhattan Transfer. They do this with their precise vocal control and polish\, pulsating rhythms and innovative arrangements. However\, the individuals’ grounding in gospel\, jazz\, pop and theater provides a far broader range to the group’s musical offerings.  \nThe group’s repertoire\, arranged by Director Sanford Moore\, originally specialized in music from the swing era. Moreover\, it has broadened to also include contemporary jazz\, original compositions and new arrangements of great standards. They pull tunes from Broadway\, Hollywood and the Cotton Club period. Then\, they perform these songs in what has become known as the signature style of Moore By Four. \nRecommended for fans of Manhattan Transfer\, New York Voices\, The Four Freshmen and Take 6.

SUMMARY:JT Bates\, Zacc Harris\, Chris Bates Trio
DESCRIPTION:Drummer JT Bates grew up at the Dakota. He experienced being in the same room as many drummers who created the language of the modern drumset. For example\, Billy Higgins\, Ben Riley\, Elvin Jones\, Max Roach\, and on from those depths.  \nTo share a stage shared by so much music from far and wide is an honor. Here\, JT is joined by brother Chris Bates on bass\, and Zacc Harris on guitar.   \nCurrently residing in Minneapolis\, JT is most often holed up in a studio making drum tracks for many recording artists. He has recently contributed tracks to Maya Hawke\, Taylor Swift\, and Ed Sheeran. However\, growing up in a jazz-oriented family has never left his core. Thus\, he can be seen semi-regularly in the Twin Cities performing creative music in multiple capacities.   \nBates has worked with artists from both ends of the spectrum. He has toured with fellow improvisers Tony Malaby\, Anthony Cox\, John Medeski\, and Craig Taborn. Also\, The Lowest Pair\, Big Red Machine (with Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner)\, Jenny Lewis\, Bonny Light Horseman\, and LULUC. Additionally\, he was a part of the Bon Iver Tu Dance project at The Palace. \nBates has played alongside some of his personal favorite singer/songwriters. These include Pieta Brown\, Phil Cook\, Erik Koskinen\, Dead Man Winter\, and The Pines. He made his first solo recording\, Open Relationships\, in 2015. JT is a lifelong member of Fat Kid Wednesdays (w/Adam Linz and Michael Lewis)\, and Alpha Consumer (w/Jeremy Ylvisaker and Michael Lewis). He also fronts Grain\, a Hammond B3 organ trio. \nRecommended for fans of The Bad Plus\, Nate Smith\, LA Buckner and Dosh.

SUMMARY:Salin
DESCRIPTION:  \nSalin is a Thai-born\, Canada-based drummer\, and a Juno-nominated producer and composer. Her current music explores the enchanting sounds of Northeast Thailand and marries it with the 70’s psychedelia of West Africa. Here\, she does this through the lens of modern soulful production. \nShe released her debut album Cosmic Island in 2021. Then\, she appeared at a variety of festivals\, including the beloved Montreal International Jazz Festival. \nThe following year\, Salin traveled to Northeastern Thailand. There\, the local culture\, music and instruments sparked an idea for her next project. She sought to bridge traditional Thai instruments and Isan music with the rhythm and groove of soul & funk and 70’s West African Afrobeat. Working with both local Thai as well as Canadian musicians\, Salin is bringing together elements of East and West. Salin released her second full-length album\, Rammana\, in April 2025. \nRammana is a groundbreaking album that merges afro-jazz\, funk and indigenous Thai instruments. Thus\, Salin coined the genre “Afro Thai Funk.” This unique blend highlights shared global music traditions and reminds us that music is a universal language. Here\, it transcends borders and unites us all in a shared experience of joy and creativity. Furthermore\, she is the only female drummer\, producer\, and composer promoting this genre. Thus\, Salin stands out as an innovative voice and a pioneer in the world and jazz music scenes. \nSalin ponders themes of identity\, spirituality\, and humanity (all paired with a dose of fun) through her music. Then\, she creates a unique sonic journey for her listeners. She divides her time between her Canada-based studio and stages across the globe. \nRecommended for fans of Butcher Brown\, Fela Kuti\, The Meters and Marquis Hill.

SUMMARY:Spyro Gyra
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn 2024\, Jay Beckenstein and band started its observation of the fiftieth anniversary of the band. What started as a diversion\, something that was just for fun (and twenty-five cents at the door) continues its evolution into 2025. It began inauspiciously when Beckenstein and a few musician friends in Buffalo\, NY organized a get together on their shared night off from working in bands that actually made money. It was a simple\, humble idea with a name that was likewise simple and humble\, “Tuesday Night Jazz Jam”.  \nFast forward fifty years and this jazz super-group has released over thirty albums\, garnering gold and platinum along the way. They’ve played over 10\,000 concerts on six continents. Further\, Spyro Gyra has maintained its standards of excellence. Thus\, these standards have sustained them on the “A list” of live attractions in jazz for fifty years. Renowned bass player Will Lee once referred to the ensemble as a “well-oiled road machine” as a tribute to their daunting schedule\, bringing their music to fans around the globe. \nFans of the band are familiar with the group’s rise to international prominence from humble beginnings in Buffalo\, New York. That’s when a few area musicians arranged for a weekly gig of playing less commercial music on everyone’s night off. Soon the word got around; the core group was joined by many musicians to come and have fun. And customers started showing up\, too\, prompting the club owner to press Beckenstein for a band name. Beckenstein offered up this late night\, tipsy answer\, “You can call it ‘spirogyra’”\, algae he had studied once. The next week\, he came back and there it was\, misspelling and all\, and so it began in 1974. \nRecommended for fans of Return to Forever\, Yellowjackets\, David Sanborn and Brecker Brothers. \n\n \n📸: David White
