GINGER COMMODORE

Live from the Porch
Filmed May 9, 2020

Launching the Dakota’s livestream shows, longtime Dakota favorite Ginger Commodore brought heartfelt, heartstopping live music to our Facebook page with her husband, Bobby Commodore (drums), longtime friend and bassist Mark Weisberg, and keyboardist Adi Yeshaya (who also as Bobby pointed out is an “arranger & orchestrator supreme”). Classically trained, gospel-influenced, and jazz-inspired, Ginger’s musical foundation is a true amalgam of musical styles presented with her own unique delivery. As City Pages notes, “Ginger possesses some of the sweetest and most clarion pipes in town.”

THE STEELES: A CONCERT FOR COMMUNITY HEALING

Filmed June 4, 2020

“In response to what was happening in the Twin Cities in the wake of George Floyd’s death, the Steeles gave an impromptu, livestreamed two-hour concert for healing on Saturday in Jevetta Steele’s front yard. Captured by three cameras with good-quality audio, the Steele siblings purged pain, soothed souls and raised spirits with soul classics, pop prayers, Steele originals, solace-seeking sermons and a liberating, exhilarating ‘Wang Dang Doodle.’ Included were guest appearances by Patty PetersonSara GrovesAmondo Dickerson and others as well as a first-rate band. The unrehearsed, overwhelmingly emotional performance is exactly what Minnesota needs right now.”  —Jon Bream, Star Tribune
