Tierney Sutton
For 15 years the Tierney Sutton Band has been reinventing standards, producing shockingly cool original music, and changing people’s perception of what a collaborative jazz ensemble can do. So much more than a singer-backed-by-able-musicians outfit, this group takes an egalitarian, synergistic method to creating their music. The group is fronted by Sutton’s strikingly smooth voice, as perfect in sound as it is in pitch.
Sutton was born and raised in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, and received vocal training at Wesleyan College and the Berklee School of Music. She was a semi-finalist in the 1998 Thelonious Monk Institute Vocal Jazz Competition, along with Jane Monheit and Roberta Gambarini.
The group is currently working on their 8th record, adding to their list of Grammy nominated and critically hailed recordings. The Tierney Sutton Band is comprised of vocalist Tierney Sutton and pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt, and drummer Ray Brinker.
