Liv Warfield
The Peoria, Ill.-reared/Portland, Ore.-based rock-soul singer found her groove with Prince and later her own band featuring guitarist Ryan Waters. And, of course, there was the side project with Heart’s Nancy Wilson called Roadcase Royale. On a recent visit to the Twin Cities to sit in with Urban Classic, Warfield discovered some simpatico Minnesota music makers in drummer Brandon Commodore, guitarist Bobby G and fellow NPG alum Tommy Barbarella, the keyboardist. They are collaborating on a tribute show to Etta James and Janis Joplin, two legends to whom Warfield, a vocal and emotional powerhouse, can do justice.
