The great Nelson Mandela described Cape Town-born piano legend Abdullah Ibrahim as “South Africa’s Mozart.” A performer, composer and outspoken chronicler of South Africa’s struggle with apartheid, Ibrahim became an international figure in jazz, whose music has always been a mixtures of influences from jazz and classical to gospel and traditional African music. He has had a staggering 50-album career, recording in settings ranging from solo to orchestral music and soundtrack work. He formed his septet Ekaya in the early 1980s, recording their debut album in 1983. Ibrahim brings the current incarnation of this superb ensemble for these two shows. Stateside performances by Abdullah Ibrahim are a rare occurrence, and this promises an unforgettable experience with a living jazz legend.

It was in 2014 – after sixteen years and nine albums as songwriter-performer-producer with Tracey Thorn in best-selling duo Everything But The Girl, and a further ten at the helm of his award-winning electronic label Buzzin’ Fly – that Ben Watt returned to his roots as a solo singer and songwriter with Hendra, his second solo album.

Ben Watt has put together a crack band to tour the US in June 2016 in support of his new solo album Fever Dream. Joining Watt will be regular guitarist-sideman and album-collaborator Bernard Butler (formerly of Suede) plus Matthew E White’s rhythm section (Cameron Ralston – bass; Pinson Chanselle – drums) from Spacebomb Records in Richmond, VA who – fresh from their work with Natalie Prass – guest especially on the dates.

Mindi Abair is an American two time Grammy Award nominated, American saxophonist, vocalist, author, and National Trustee for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences
whose roots run solid through the ’60s and early ’70s golden age of soul, funk and R&B. When not fronting her own band, she’s lent her mix of sax and sassiness to others, ranging from peter White and Dave Koz to Aerosmith .

With a sound reminiscent of The Gypsy Kings, they masterfully blend the indigenous rhythms and melodies of their native Veracruz, Mexico with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music. It’s an intoxicating brew of musical brilliance and virtuosity that awakens the senses and redefines the notions behind Latin music.

A trio of virtuoso violinists, singer-songwriters, composers, and arrangers (with a five piece band), they have performed at the Latin Grammy Awards, Carnegie Hall, the Guggenheim Museum, Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations, Rockefeller Center, the New York Mets field at Shea Stadium, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, New Victory Theatre, and the Apollo Theater among other historic venues.
