Regina Carter, violin
Yocouba Sissoko, kora

Chris Lightcap, bass
Acclaimed as one of the most transcendent voices of contemporary violin, MacArthur Fellow Regina Carter hones her tenacious force with a new ensemble. Consisting mainly of African folk tunes, Reverse Thread is her latest contribution to the world of contemporary jazz offering an uplifting and stirring new perspective on music from Mali, Senegal and other areas. This unique evening includes some traditional pieces from Ugandan Jews, a piece by Ayub Ogada (from the movie The Constant Gardener), some music from the African Diaspora, as well as original material and earlier repertoire.
Known for her original compositions and collaborations with many jazz greats, Carter illuminates the stage with her unique fusion of world music and classical violin, interweaving instruments from Mali (the kora) and Senegal (powerful drum rhythms).
