The Uptown Jazz Orchestra was formed in 2008 to bring the traditional riff and blues sounds to school students in the New Orleans area. Under the direction of trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, and anchored by Dirty Dozen Brass Band founder Roger Lewis on bari sax, UJO sings and swings with confidence and soul…all night long! Performing blues and standards that combine riff-playing, spontaneous arrangements and the New Orleans second line groove, the Uptown Jazz Orchestra keeps the old school jazz traditions alive.

If one word describes Red Molly’s music, that word is joyous. From their soaring, signature harmonies to the rich, varied tones of their individual voices, Red Molly is simply a joy to listen to. Their brilliantly wrought a capella tunes are love letters to the art of the vocal blend, and their innovative instrumentation is perfectly suited for foot stomping bluegrass-tinged barnburners and perfectly crafted heart-full ballads alike. Though each of them shines alone, the true majesty of Red Molly comes with the effortless blend of their voices. Together Red Molly’s vocals swell and swoon in a way that raises goosebumps.

This includes delivering adventurous and provocative acoustic jazz outings of original material, composing over 50 soundtracks and even, in 2013, debuting Champion: An Opera in Jazz. He has also, in the spirit of his onetime membership in the jazz school of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, mentored several musicians in his bands who have gone on to have significant recording careers of their own including Lionel Loueke, Aaron Parks, Kendrick Scott and one of his current band members Fabian Almazan).

Judy Collins
May 23 & 24 | 7pm
Call 612.332.5299 or Click Here For Tickets

Folk music doesn’t produce stars bigger than Judy Collins. For nearly 50 years she has been performing and recording folk, pop, and art music at a very high level. Her crystal clear, pure soprano voice is just as captivating today as it is on her debut 1961 recording, A Maid of Constant Sorrow.

A classical piano prodigy, she turned to folk music early on, embracing the social and musical elements of the movement. At the urging of her friend Leonard Cohen (whose songs she recorded on her early albums), Collins began writing and recording her own songs. Her popularity owes just as much to the songs she helped popularize, Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and Stephen Sondheim’s “Send In the Clowns,” both Grammy award-winning performances. Her performances since the mid-70s have balanced her original material with her other hits, and gems by artists like The Beatles and Harry Chapin, all showcases for her haunting, focused voice.
