J.D. Simo & Luther Dickinson
These two bluesy guitarists teamed up on a 2024 album “Do the Rump” with Afrobeat-inclined drummer Adam Abrashoff. They interpret tunes by Bobby Charles, J.J. Cale, Junior Kimbrough, John Lee Hooker and others with a raw, mind-bending hill country blues take that’s as moody as it is mesmerizing. Of course, the guitarists come with reputable resumes, with Simo having provided some of the guitar work for the biopics “Elvis” in 2022 and “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” in 2025. The more high profile Dickinson leads the North Mississippi Allstars and plays with the Black Crowes.

Morgan James
A versatile vocalist who has performed on Broadway (“Motown: The Musical,” “The Addams Family”) and with Postmodern Jukebox (“Take Me to Church,” “Dream On”), the Juilliard-educated James takes on ‘80s and ‘90s rock hits on her eighth studio album, 2025’s “Soul Remains the Same,” reimagining them with her soulful style. Who knew that AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” could be interpreted with such nuance? Or that Whitesnake’s “Is This Love” could be such a sultry plea? Or Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight” could penetrate as a quiet, haunting piano-and-voice ballad?
