The great Cuban-American trumpeter has collected a bookcase full of awards, including 10 Grammys, an Emmy and a Kennedy Center Honors. He has recorded 35 albums as a bandleader and appeared on dozens of discs as a sideman with everyone from Tony Bennett and Rod Stewart to Alicia Keys and Dizzy Gillespie, his mentor who helped him defect. The fiery Sandoval, who also plays flügelhorn and piano, has been a regular and welcomed visitor to the Twin Cities for decades.
