Soul Asylum
Dave Pirner has worked acoustic before, usually with just his band’s guitarist Ryan Smith. Then in 2023, Pirner did a full-band acoustic presentation at the State Theatre to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Soul Asylum’s appearance on “MTV Unplugged.” In Minneapolis, Pirner was joined by his New Orleans pal Ivan Neville on keyboards and a gospel choir led by Robert Robinson. Pirner will reprise the acoustic show in a more intimate setting, with Neville and the Laurels Strings Quartet. The concert will be a preview of Soul Asylum’s upcoming album, “Mpls. Unplugged,” a recording of the 2023 concert.

Talib Kweli
One of the first in the growing line of hip-hop legends welcomed by Minneapolis’ legendary jazz club, the Brooklyn rapper is returning to the Dakota to deliver two sets in one night with a live band. Kweli came to fame with Yasiin Bey (then Mos Def) as the duo Black Star via their landmark 2002 debut album, and he has gone on to become a highly influential and prolific solo player with 10 albums to his name, the latest of which was 2024’s well-received collaboration with J. Rawls, “The Confidence of Knowing.”

Stanley Clarke
