One of the most unique and enduring bands in alternative rock” – AllMusic

Sometimes revolutions begin quietly.

In 1988, Cowboy Junkies proved that an audience was waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective. The Trinity Session was like a whisper that cut through the noise — and it compelled attention. It stood out amid the flash and bombast that came to define the late 80’s. The now-classic recording combined folk, blues and rock in a way that had never been heard before. Also, it sold more than a million copies.

Formed in Toronto in 1985, the band has sparkled over the course of twenty-nine albums. Siblings Michael Timmins on guitar, Margo Timmins on vocals, Peter Timmins on drums, and Michael’s lifelong friend Alan Anton on bass constitute the band. “I’ve known Alan longer than I’ve known Pete,” Michael says. “We were friends before Pete was born.”

Unlike most long-lasting groups, Cowboy Junkies have never experienced a breakup or taken a sanity-saving hiatus. Moreover, their appreciation of each other keeps them constantly working. “It’s that intimacy and understanding of what each one of us brings to the table,” Michael explains. Cowboy Junkies will perform a career-spanning show, including their new album, 2023’s Such Ferocious Beauty.

Their mixture of blues, country, folk, rock and jazz has garnered both critical attention and a cult following. And, the Los Angeles Times named their debut recording, The Trinity Session, one of the ten best albums of 1988.

The band received nominations for Group of the Year at the Juno Awards in 1990 and 1991. In the early 1990s People named Margo Timmins “one of the fifty most beautiful people in the world”. The group has continued touring North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. Also, they extensively toured in North America and Europe following album releases in 2002 and 2004.
