Jon B is a consummate artist. He is an accomplished musician and noted songwriter and producer with several gold and platinum records under his belt. His is a richly textured body of music, a testament to one man’s love for all things soul. His beginning was seasoned by early influences including Duran Duran, Inxs, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Babyface, Prince and Sade. Then, he spent the summer after high school writing, producing and recording forty incredible songs. There, he began making his rounds to all major record labels.
Within a few months, he’d met Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and his wife, Tracy Edmonds. Soon, they signed Jon to their label, Edmonds Record Group. Then, the relationship between Jon and Edmonds immediately bore fruit. His debut album Bonafide went platinum and the single “Someone to Love” received a Grammy nomination. His sophomore effort, Cool Relax, also went platinum and earned him multiple Billboard Music Award nominations. Additionally, he received a Soul Train Music Award nomination for Best Male Single for “Are U Still Down”. This featured the legendary Tupac Shakur collaborating with Jon in the studio.
Jon became an in-demand producer, working with Nas, Faith Evans, and many more. His appreciation for music and modern culture saw him break free of the strictures of R&B. Also, he incorporated hip-hop, rock, reggae and jazz into his versatile sound.
Jon went on to write and produce records for Luther Vandross and Toni Braxton. Also, he worked with Gina Thompson, Color Me Badd, Az Yet, as well as remixing Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone”.
