“extraordinary singer” – Walker Art Center
Prudence Johnson (lovelorn witch), Maria Jette (vegan vampire), Dane Stauffer (transition-impaired werewolf) and demon Dan Chouinard will haunt the Dakota! Here, they take the stage for one night only to sing a bewitching brew of vintage Halloween tunes. Additionally, they are accompanied by a devilishly good ensemble (Joe Pulice, drums and Gary Raynor, bass). Daniel Andersen created and emcees Monstrous Melodies Cabaret, which will infect you with the Halloween spirit. Costumes are, of course, encouraged.
They’ll perform Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You” and William Bolcom’s “Song of Black Max”. Also, time-tested favorites “Witchcraft” and “How High the Moon”. Further, forgotten gems like “Swingin’ at the Séance” and “The Devil’s Ball”. These are all sung by a witch who can’t find love—is it her personality or that wart—the vampire who longs for death after turning vegan, or a werewolf who is finding the transition more difficult as he ages.
Lost your lust for Halloween? Dreading the doorbell? This Cabaret is a wicked good time.
