“He’s one of the best musicians I know” – Leo Kottke

Rediscovered and reinterpreted. An inspiring album for all guitarists that shows how you can hear the familiar in a completely new way. With Lost and Found, guitar icon Tim Sparks dedicates himself to well-known songs, catchy jazz standards and rousing country blues and creates a musical homage to the music of Lennon-McCartney, Bob Dylan, Jerry Reed, Paul Desmond and Kris Kristofferson.

The CD is complemented by three original compositions that also have what it takes to become standard. With playful finesse and great harmonic expertise, Sparks, who was once crowned “National Fingerpicking Champion” in the USA, transforms otherwise rather simple songs such as Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man”, Janis Joplin’s almost gruffly performed “Me and Bobby McGee” or the Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride”. Sung with sharp-sounding harmonies, into multi-layered and nuanced jazz numbers with a high proportion of fingerstyle.

Sparks and his archtop guitar are skillfully and sensitively accompanied by Ted Olsen on double bass and Ben Abrahamson on classical guitar in his jazzy interpretations. With Lost and Found, Tim Sparks impressively demonstrates how worthwhile it can be to rediscover and reinterpret something that has been thought lost or not heard for a long time, without clinging to the original and yet retaining its soul.

Tim Sparks has been redefining the acoustic guitar repertoire since he won the National Fingerpicking Championship in 1993 with a ground-breaking arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. Equally at home with country, blues, jazz or World music, Sparks’s extraordinary ability has earned him an international reputation as one of the most innovative guitarists working today.
