“One of the Twin Cities’ most sophisticated songwriters.” – Star Tribune
Munson-Hicks Party Supplies is a collaboration between John Munson, who does most of the singing and plays bass, and Dylan Hicks, who does most of the writing and plays piano. Their self-titled debut album—called “one of the most charming albums of the year” by the Star Tribune—blends pop, jazz, R&B, and the singer-songwriter tradition. The flexible band is completed by guitarist Zacc Harris, organist Kevin Gastonguay, and drummer Noah Levy, and for this performance, they’ll be joined by Aby Wolf, Faith Boblett, and Kelley Smith. In addition to brainy, groovy originals, the group interprets and improvises on material from various styles and eras, sometimes shining a light on a little-known gem, and sometimes offering a surprising take on a well-loved classic.
Munson is best known as a co-founding member of Semisonic, the New Standards, and Trip Shakespeare. Hicks, who is also a novelist, plays in several groups and leads Dylan Hicks & Small Screens.
